Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc.


Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour

Hours: 20/week

Part Time/ Non-Exempt

Work Location: In person


Reports to: Program Director


Responsibilities: Responsible for the general upkeep of the facility; overall management of CTRC’s buildings and pastures; machinery upkeep; organizing and supervising facility volunteer work crew projects; and working to secure pertinent donations of materials and/or expertise. This position operates tractor (and attachments), gator, truck and blade, and hand tools. This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to lift a minimum of 70 pounds and work outside in all weather conditions.


Job Duties:

Farming/Pasture Management: ● Implement and maintain a pasture management plan including harrowing, mowing and compost spreading ● With input from barn/program staff, repair fences and gates to ensure safety of horses, participants, volunteers and staff ● Continually ensure Hot Wire is fully operational in all pastures ● Erect new fences as necessary and maintain fencing by providing repairs and regular inspection. ● Oversee and implement all aspects of irrigation including laying pipe, developing water flow and gate rotation schedule, calling for water, and providing back up assistance for regulating flow gates ● Remove manure from collection pile to compost pile and spread to fertilize pastures as necessary ● Mow weeds along fence lines, outdoor arena and observation area, driveway, parking area, pastures, paddocks and sensory trail ● Spray pastures and paddocks for weeds

Building and Equipment Management: ● Maintain driveway and parking areas ● Plow driveway and parking lot and shovel entranceways on workdays ● Shovel entrance-ways - including farmhouse entrances - and keep shedrows and all walkways clear on all snow days, according to established timeline and priorities ● Ensure vehicles are filled with gas and fully operational. Continually ensure gas cans are filled. ● Maintain and provide needed repairs to motorized equipment, or make arrangements for such repairs ● Maintain and provide needed repairs to all equipment including equine waterers, washer/dryer, caretaker's appliances, well pump, pressure tank, heating/cooling system, major plumbing, vacuums/shop vacs, electrical systems and activation/deactivation/maintenance of lawn sprinkler system – or make arrangements for such repairs ● Maintain structural well-being of all buildings and keep in good repair ● Water indoor arena one times weekly and harrow arenas as needed (generally three times/week) ● Ensure lighting is all operational and replace bulbs where/when needed ● Maintain fire extinguishers and smoke alarms and keep service records; participate in fire department inspections ● Exterminate/remove rodents and insects where possible safety or sanitary hazard. ● Ensure throughout facility appropriate and well-maintained signage for volunteers and the public


Administrative: ● Supervisor must approve all expenditures ● Train/maintain training log of all approved staff and Facility Team volunteers on equipment pertinent to their roles ● Organize/oversee approved Facility Team volunteers, work crews and community service workers to help with facility management projects ● Maintain up to date records/logs of preventative maintenance and repairs on all facility equipment ● Maintain all building and equipment keys and logs ● Assist in planning and implementing special events, as related to facilities/farming issues ● Responsible for keeping up to date on inter-CTRC communications (e.g. attending staff meetings)
