Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Healing Program Manager, the Peer Support Worker supports the delivery of trauma-informed, culturally grounded health services within the Lil'wat Health & Healing department. This role works directly with community members to promote wellness, recovery, and connection through both clinical and traditional Indigenous approaches.

The Peer Support Worker helps participants engage with the healing program offerings and navigate supports. They also assist with program preparation, events, participant transportation, and day to day tasks that support the overall functioning of the department.

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

• Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, low-barrier support to individuals experiencing trauma, mental health challenges, and/or substance use, supporting autonomy and wellness.
• Conduct check-ins and support participants in accessing healing programming and community resources.
• Provide mental health and healing resources and support to community members and staff, as directed.
• Participate and connect individuals to cultural & wellness supports, and harm reduction workshops.
• Engage with peers to understand their needs and support the identification of opportunities for education, services, and support.
• Support cultural and land-based healing practices including talking circles, smudging, drumming, traditional food preparation, and ceremonies.
• Facilitate access to Elders, Traditional Healers, and Knowledge Keepers in collaboration with Program Coordinators.
• Assist individuals in setting and working toward personal healing goals.
• Help clients in navigating systems and accessing services such as healing program events and resources, harm reduction supplies, and other community wellness programs.
• Collaborate with program participants, knowledge keepers, interdisciplinary team members, and external partners to support wellness plans under the guidance of program leadership.
• Maintain accurate and confidential documentation, including form distribution/ collection, outreach logs, client notes, and incident reports.
• Support program development and evaluation activities through feedback and team collaboration.
• Support interactions with external agencies such as FNHA, CMHA, and Vancouver Coastal Health.
• Participate in relevant training, staff development activities, and regular team meetings.
• Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes: 

• Diploma or certificate in Social Services, Community Support Work, Peer Support Training, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience working or volunteering in outreach, peer support, or healing-focused roles is an asset.
• Understanding of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
• Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships, listen without judgment, and provide strengths-based, culturally safe support. Preference may be given to individuals with lived experience related to trauma, substance use, or mental health recovery. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with Indigenous healing practices, cultural teachings, and land-based wellness approaches.
• Knowledge of Lil'wat Nation culture, language, and territory is a strong asset.
• Strong organizational skills both practical and administrative.
• Proficient with Outlook, Microsoft Office, and online file sharing. 
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in an office or community setting.
• Committed to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and clear boundaries.
• Certification in Standard First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST are preferred. Training will be provided.
• Ability to flex hours for program events in evenings, weekends, and some overnight trips.
• Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and a clean Driver's Abstract required. Access to a reliable vehicle is a strong asset.
