Job description

Job Title: Warehouse Worker

Job Description

This role involves working in a fast-paced warehouse environment, focusing on order picking, pallet building, and safe operation of material handling equipment. You will spend most of your time hand-picking orders and assembling pallets for shipment, with additional responsibilities that include operating forklifts and pallet jacks, loading and unloading containers, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The position requires comfort working in refrigerated areas for short periods and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks on a consistent basis.

Responsibilities

  • Hand-pick orders and build pallets for outbound shipments for approximately 50–60% of the shift.
  • Operate stand-up counterbalance (SDCB) forklifts and rider pallet jacks (Crown electric and Nissan) for approximately 10–20% of the shift, following all safety procedures.
  • Load and offload containers using forklifts and pallet jacks when sufficiently experienced and authorized to operate the equipment.
  • Use an RF scanner and pick sheets to accurately locate, pick, and prepare orders for shipment.
  • Wrap skids securely, move pallets to designated areas, and stage completed orders for shipping.
  • Perform general warehouse housekeeping, including organizing work areas, removing debris, and maintaining clear aisles.
  • Work in refrigerated coolers, including the coldest cooler at approximately 1°C, for short periods of up to 10 minutes at a time while maintaining productivity.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and equipment operating procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Check in with the manager before leaving at the end of each shift to ensure all tasks and responsibilities are complete.
  • Support overall warehouse operations by assisting team members and adapting to changing priorities as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to consistently lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent (within the past 2 years) experience operating a ride-on pallet jack.
  • Valid or previously held ticket for both stand-up counterbalance (SDCB) forklift and ride-on pallet jack; in-house or expired certifications may be considered.
  • Comfort working in cold environments, including picking orders in coolers at approximately 0–1°C for short durations.
  • Strong English communication skills, including clear verbal communication, effective reading of pick sheets and instructions, and accurate written documentation as required.
  • Proven experience operating forklifts and rider pallet jacks in a warehouse or similar environment.
  • Ability to work a contract role through the end of the year, including flexibility for overtime and varying start and end times.
  • Reliability and punctuality for a schedule that includes weekday and Saturday shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating stand-up counterbalance (SDCB) forklifts in a busy warehouse environment.
  • Working in a similar industry warehouse, particularly in high-volume shipping and receiving operations.
  • Familiarity with RF scanning technology and pick sheet-based order fulfillment.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with frequent inbound and outbound deliveries.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order picking, pallet building, and shipment preparation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team while also performing tasks independently.
  • Willingness to work on statutory holidays when they fall on scheduled workdays, except for designated days off such as Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Why Work Here?

You join a warehouse team that values collaboration, long-term relationships, and a positive work culture. The company fosters a supportive environment with team-building activities, such as events, pizza lunches, and food truck days, and is committed to bringing these back when possible. Many employees have long tenures, reflecting strong job satisfaction and stability. Contractors have successfully transitioned into permanent roles, demonstrating real opportunities for long-term growth and continued employment.

Work Environment

You work in a fast-paced, busy warehouse with constant deliveries arriving and leaving throughout the day. The team includes about 9 people within the immediate group and approximately 50 people across the facility. The role involves regular use of forklifts, rider pallet jacks (including Crown electric and Nissan), RF scanners, and related warehouse equipment. The schedule runs from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with flexibility of about plus or minus one hour on start and end times. Overtime is frequently required, typically around 1 hour per day, though not every week. The standard workweek is Monday to Saturday, with Sunday and Tuesday as days off. Employees are expected to work statutory holidays when they fall on scheduled workdays, except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, which are off; work is expected on New Year’s Eve and Remembrance Day. The shift includes two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break. The environment includes refrigerated coolers, with the coldest around 1°C, and you may enter these areas for short periods of up to 10 minutes at a time. Dress is casual but practical: warm clothing such as sweaters, jackets, and long pants is essential, and shorts are not permitted. Steel-toed boots are required, and a safety vest is provided.
