What are some common challenges faced when starting a new role in a multidisciplinary working in team?

When joining a multidisciplinary 'Working In' team, one of the main challenges is adapting to different working styles and communication preferences among team members from diverse backgrounds. It's important to proactively seek feedback, clarify expectations, and engage in open communication to integrate smoothly and contribute effectively. Collaboration and flexibility are key to overcoming these initial hurdles and building strong working relationships.

Job description

Teaching in Guatemala | ECE, Kindergarten & Elementary Positions Available

Our client is a non-profit, international preK-6 school located in Panajachel, Guatemala on the shores of beautiful Lake Atitlan. We are committed to providing quality education to the local population, who are mostly indigenous of Mayan descent.

The positions are a full-time teaching position for a 10-month academic year from August 2019 to June 2020. Contracts for continued employment will be offered for additional years based on performance, as we love to have teachers who are interested in being around for more than a year.

Available positions include:

  • ECE Classroom Educators
  • Kindergarten Teacher
  • Homeroom Elementary Teachers

The majority of our students enter our school with little to no English, and we are therefore looking for teachers with a bilingual/ELL/immersion background. As the Parvulos teacher, you would be responsible for providing instruction in literacy, social studies, math, and science for the first half of the day to students in what is the equivalent age of an American kindergarten class. To make this a full-time position, our Parvulos teacher has usually doubled as our tech teacher, teaching 1-2 45minute after lunch sessions per day to our 2nd-6th graders, as well as keeping our social media and website up to date. We have specials teachers who give classes in Spanish and physical education.

Please note that in order to apply for teaching positions at LIFE School, you must have a degree in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, and/or be state-certified.

The school will provide transportation from Guatemala City airport and will also help the new teachers in finding accommodations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with English Language Learners
  • Tech/Social Media Savvy
  • Flexible, resourceful, energetic, and passionate about education.
  • Committed to the school's mission of providing a quality bilingual education to the local population
  • Experience in differentiating instruction.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish preferred but not required
  • Preference is given to teachers with experience working in a multicultural setting
