Job description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: The General Maintenance Worker shall be responsible for performing routine maintenance duties including rough carpentry, painting, and basic equipment or facility repairs. All carpentry, electrical work, or simple plumbing repairs are performed under supervision by qualified personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
  • Start machines/equipment and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
  • Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures.
  • Reassemble equipment after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • Change light bulbs, may replace fixtures, and perform similar minor electrical tasks.
  • Open clogged drains, repair leaks, and perform other simple plumbing jobs.
  • Assist with loading or unloading trucks and moving furniture when needed.
  • Maintain tools and maintenance equipment in working order.
  • Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area, shop, and company vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in the maintenance field.
  • Must have knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in the general maintenance field.
  • Must be able to perform simple tasks independently after given specific instructions.
  • Must be able to read simple instructions and follow simple diagrams.
  • Must have a working knowledge and comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and driving history must meet company standards throughout employment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and a background check as a condition of employment and to obtain access to federal installations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
