ABOUT THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT:

The Community Development Department (CDD) is the planning agency for the City of Cambridge. CDD's mission is to foster a livable, sustainable, just, and equitable community. CDD has three programmatic divisions - Economic Opportunity & Development, Community Planning & Design, and Zoning & Development - and also encompasses the Housing Department and the Arts Council. Together, we engage and collaborate with community partners, government agencies, businesses and residents to make Cambridge a desirable place to live, work, learn, play, and innovate.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Under the direction of the Manager for Budget & Finance and the Assistant Fiscal Manager, the Fiscal Intern will assist in processing fiscal transactions, tracking activity, and general report preparation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with fiscal staff to complete transactions such as accounts payable review and processing
  • Monitor fiscal transactions to determine status and update tracking system
  • May assist in the development of various internal budget/expenditure reports and reconciliations
  • Review information provided in PeopleSoft Financials for use in preparing various financial reports.
  • Accurately perform assigned duties in a timely manner
  • May perform additional projects as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

  • College level coursework in business, finance or accounting or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience working in an office environment
  • Public sector experience a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of practical accounting principles
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials a plus
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented
  • Ability to prioritize workloads, multitask and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Standard office environment with fluorescent lighting, air conditioning, computers and other standard office equipment. Shared workstation with a moderate noise level. This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City's Telework Policy, depending on operational needs.
