Job description

The Novelis North America Building and Construction Business is looking for a Cold Mill Operator for our Davenport, IA facility.

Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Guides metal as it is fed mechanically from payoff to and through take-up rolls of cold mill using wooden stick. 
  • Cuts jagged edges and scrap from sheet, using hand or machine shears and flattens leading edge of sheet if necessary. 
  • Clears cobbles using pry bar, hand tools, and automatic equipment and adjusts guides using hand or power tools and/or automated equipment. 
  • Observes metal for defects such as tears, cracks, dross holes, etc. and corrects or notifies Cold Mill Operator for corrective action. 
  • Observes and adjusts speed of metal feed from Operator’s console. 
  • Directs and/or assists roll changes using power crane and counterbalance using adjustable sliding counterweight to achieve correct balance. 
  • Maintains housekeeping in work area. 
  • Scrapes floor around mill as needed with long handled scraper. 
  • Using hook, retrieves bands, scraps, and debris from payoff pit each week.
  • Works as a team member to assure a smooth and efficient operation with minimum disruption or delay and the highest priority for safety. 
  • Works toward implementation and on-going development of Quality Improvement Process as it pertains to all functions.
  • Performs other duties as required for smooth, efficient, and safe operation and to assure quality output in accordance with internal/external customer requirements and specifications.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.

Required Qualifications:

  • GED or High School Diploma
