Workday Integration Architect information

What does a Workday Integration Architect do?

A Workday Integration Architect designs, develops, and manages integrations between Workday and other internal or external systems. They analyze business requirements, recommend solutions, and ensure that data flows smoothly and securely across platforms. Their responsibilities also include troubleshooting integration issues, maintaining documentation, and collaborating with stakeholders to optimize processes. This role requires expertise in Workday's integration tools, such as Workday Studio, EIB, and Core Connectors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Workday Integration Architect?

To thrive as a Workday Integration Architect, you need a deep understanding of Workday HCM/Finance modules, integration frameworks, and experience in designing and deploying large-scale HRIS solutions—often supported by a bachelor's degree in IT or a related field. Expertise with Workday Studio, EIB (Enterprise Interface Builder), Core Connectors, and proficiency in web services (SOAP/REST), XML, and related certifications are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help professionals collaborate with stakeholders and troubleshoot complex integration issues. These skills are crucial for developing reliable, scalable integrations that ensure seamless data flow and business process efficiency in enterprise environments.

They work closely with HR, IT, payroll, and external vendors to ensure seamless data flow between Workday and other business systems. This involves gathering detailed requirements, designing integration solutions, coordinating testing efforts, and troubleshooting issues that may arise. Effective communication and project management skills are crucial, as the architect often serves as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders.

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Workday Integration Specialist with strong hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting integrations between Workday and external enterprise applications.

This is a Workday Integration Developer / Workday Integrator position focused primarily on Workday integration development, Workday Studio, EIB, APIs, web services, data transformation, programming, testing, and production support.

The ideal candidate will have approximately 5+ years of Workday Integration experience and strong hands-on development experience with Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Web Services, REST/SOAP APIs, XML, JSON, XSLT/XPath, and Java or Python.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain inbound and outbound Workday integrations with external applications.

  • Develop integrations supporting HCM, Payroll, Benefits, Finance, and other enterprise systems.

  • Build and maintain integrations using Workday Studio, EIB, and Core Connectors.

  • Work with Workday Web Services and Workday APIs.

  • Develop and troubleshoot inbound and outbound data flows.

  • Work with REST APIs, SOAP Web Services, XML, JSON, CSV, XSLT, and XPath.

  • Perform custom development using Java or Python where required.

  • Conduct unit testing and support SIT and UAT activities.

  • Validate integration data and investigate data discrepancies.

  • Troubleshoot integration failures and resolve production issues.

  • Monitor production integrations and provide ongoing support.

  • Support integration deployment, releases, and post-production activities.

  • Collaborate with functional teams and technical stakeholders to understand integration requirements.

  • Ensure integration solutions meet business, technical, security, and data-quality requirements.

Required Skills
  • 5+ years of hands-on Workday Integration experience.

  • Strong experience with Workday Studio.

  • Strong experience with Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB).

  • Experience with Workday Core Connectors.

  • Experience with Workday Web Services / APIs.

  • Strong understanding of REST and SOAP.

  • Strong experience with XML, JSON, and CSV.

  • Experience with XSLT/XPath.

  • Strong programming experience in Java or Python.

  • Experience developing both inbound and outbound integrations.

  • Strong integration testing and troubleshooting experience.

  • Experience supporting production Workday integrations.

  • Ability to analyze integration errors and resolve data and technical issues.

Workday Certification

Workday certification is strongly preferred, with Workday Integration / Integrator certification being the ideal qualification.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate their Workday certification credentials and relevant hands-on integration experience.

Candidates without Workday certification may be considered if they have exceptionally strong technical skills and can successfully demonstrate their Java or Python programming capabilities through the required technical assessment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Workday Integration certification.

  • Experience integrating Workday with third-party HR, payroll, benefits, finance, or enterprise applications.

  • Strong understanding of integration architecture and data flows.

  • Experience with complex Workday Studio integrations.

  • Experience troubleshooting high-volume or business-critical integrations.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Workday Integration Developer / Integrator, rather than a primarily functional Workday consultant.

Candidates should have demonstrated experience building and supporting real-world integrations using:
