What is Workday Accounting?

Workday Accounting refers to the use of the Workday platform for managing financial and accounting operations within an organization. Workday is a cloud-based software that streamlines processes like general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. Professionals in Workday Accounting configure, maintain, and support these financial functions, ensuring accurate data entry, compliance, and integration with other business systems. The role typically requires both accounting knowledge and proficiency with the Workday system.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Workday Accounting professional?

To thrive as a Workday Accounting professional, you need a solid background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and general ledger management, often supported by a degree in accounting or finance. Experience with the Workday Financial Management system, relevant certifications, and familiarity with ERP integration are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication set standout candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring accurate financial operations, compliance, and successful implementation or optimization of Workday solutions.

How does a Workday Accounting professional typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Workday Accounting professionals frequently interact with teams such as HR, payroll, procurement, and IT to ensure seamless financial processes. They often work cross-functionally to resolve data discrepancies, implement system updates, and support financial reporting needs. Effective communication and collaboration are essential, as these professionals may help train users on Workday features and address integration issues. This collaborative environment fosters a deeper understanding of business operations and can open doors to broader roles within finance or system administration.

Job description

We are actively interviewing for the following job. If interested please apply now.

Job Title: Workday Financials Analyst / Functional Lead

Location: Fort Worth, TX Area (Hybrid)

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: $105,000 - $115,000, plus excellent benefits

Work Schedule: Flexible core hours available between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM

About the Opportunity:

We are a highly collaborative, mission-driven organization embarking on an exciting, enterprise-wide technological transformation. We are retiring multiple legacy HR, payroll, and financial systems and migrating to a fully integrated Workday platform.

To ensure our finance team's success during this transition, we are seeking a dedicated Workday Financials Analyst / Functional Lead to join our team.

Please note: We are looking for a true Finance and Accounting professional with systems implementation experience, rather than an IT professional who has simply learned finance.

In this role, you will serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) and functional lead for our finance department (which includes GL, AP, and Payroll). Partnering closely with our CFO, internal project team, and our third-party implementation partner, you will represent the business needs of the finance department so they can continue to focus on their day-to-day operations without missing a beat.

What You Will Do:

  • Act as the Functional SME: Represent the Finance department in design sessions, discovery meetings, and project workshops to ensure our complex business processes are accurately configured.
  • Bridge the Gap: Translate complex accounting needs into system requirements and ensure the implementation aligns with our actual business processes without relying on heavy IT jargon.
  • Drive System Testing & Data Clean-up: Supplement standard vendor test scripts by writing and executing custom test scripts, documenting results, and assisting with data mapping and cleanup as we transition off legacy platforms.
  • Be a Change Agent: Proactively champion the new system. Anticipate pushback from staff accustomed to legacy processes and positively influence them to adopt the new platform.
  • Lead Training & Documentation: Create training materials, write standard operating procedures, and serve as the go-to functional resource to help the finance team learn the new Workday environment.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Finance Foundation: A strong, hands-on professional background in accounting and finance operations. You must understand month-end close, general ledger, accounts payable, audits, and be able to clearly "speak the language" of accountants.
  • Systems Implementation Experience: Proven experience acting as a functional lead or SME during a major ERP implementation. (Full life-cycle Workday Financials experience is strongly preferred, but we will heavily consider candidates with strong finance backgrounds who have implemented other major ERPs).
  • Proactive Leadership: You are a self-starter who identifies gaps and leads the charge. You do not wait to be told what to do next.
  • Exceptional Communication: Highly positive, energetic personality with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly to non-technical finance staff.
  • Bonus Points: Experience in local government, public sector, healthcare, or grant-funded non-profit environments is a huge plus!

Why Join Us?

Our organization boasts a friendly, supportive culture where people genuinely care about one another and the community. Upon conversion to a full-time employee, you will be eligible for a highly competitive benefits package, including a generous retirement plan with a 5% match. We offer flexible core working hours and a hybrid schedule designed around project needs.
