Job description

The Financial Aid Assistant Director reports to the Director of the Student Financial Aid Office and is responsible for administering federal, state, and institutional programs to fulfill federal and state requirements. This position oversees the Federal Work Study Program and is the direct point of contact for UAB department and off-campus work-study employers. Responsibilities include coordinating work-study assignments, managing the review and approval of job postings in Handshake, and monitoring time worked in KRONOS for off campus agencies. The Assistant Director supervises the Financial Aid Office work-study students and performs monthly reconciliation of work-study accounts.
Responsibilities also include providing personal counseling, information, and guidance to students and parents concerning financial assistance programs. Assisting in outreach efforts representing the Student Financial Aid Office through presentations and various UAB events may be needed periodically. In addition, this position will assist in overseeing annual updates to information sites, various special projects, and student communications.
Must maintain a current working knowledge of federal regulations by attending regular training, conferences, and continuing communication with other aid professionals.
Additional responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
โ€ข Assists with the interpretation of federal and state regulations and guidelines, and implement procedures to ensure compliance
โ€ข Prepares new year set up and monthly reconciliation for the Federal Work study Program Accounts and Off-Campus billing
โ€ข Handles daily processes for reviewing loan limits and program changes for federal eligibility
โ€ข Serves on the Financial Aid Appeals committee and assists with the appeal process
โ€ข Assists with Return of Title IV adjustments and updates to student files
โ€ข Acts as general resource for Admissions, One Stop, Scholarships, and other UAB staff members
โ€ข Provides assistance to other Financial Aid team members, answers questions and reviews student accounts throughout the day, as well as assist as back up for other daily processes.
Additional responsibilities dedicated to this position may be assigned to assist in meeting federal compliance requirements with the U.S. Department of Education.
(Annual Salary: $43,890 - $46,000)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Must have a team-centered approach, excellent customer service skills, and ability to multitask to handle high volume calls, student walk-ins, and emails. Preference is given to those with at least three years progressive experience processing federal financial aid in a higher education environment. Banner and Oracle HR/Finance experience is a plus.
