Job Summary
Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of Virtual Tutor with our partner organization Learn to Be. Learn To Be offers a flexible, fully remote opportunity for college students with Federal Work Study to serve as virtual tutors. In this role, you'll work 1-on-1 with the same student(s) each week, building meaningful connections and helping them grow academically over time.
You'll set your own schedule, choose the grade levels and subjects you're most comfortable tutoring, and even select the students you'd like to work with. Whether you prefer working with younger students or focusing on specific subjects, you'll have the freedom to create a tutoring experience that fits you. No prior tutoring or teaching experience is required, and students from all majors are welcome to apply!
Tutors must be comfortable conducting sessions over Zoom. For safety and quality assurance, all sessions are recorded and reviewed as needed.
Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain a responsive line of communication with your student and their parent/guardian
  • Host tutoring sessions at least once a week for 60 minutes with each student
  • Support your student/s through homework help, test prep, study skills, etc.
  • Act as a mentor, not just a tutor

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Work study part of financial aid package
  • Students with work study may be prioritized
  • Consent to a DOJ Dru Sjodin Sex Offender Database Background check
  • Complete all Learn To Be FWS Tutor onboarding
  • Have access to a device with internet access and a working webcam

  • Develop time management skills by creating and maintaining your own schedule
  • Learn empathy and patience when working with students from different backgrounds and life experiences
  • Strengthen communication skills through responsive and reliable communication with students, parent/guardians and LTB staff
  • Opportunities to practice lesson building and tutoring/teaching skills for student workers interested in pursuing a career in the field of education or related

Work Schedule
  • Student workers will make their own schedule, any day of the week. Popular tutoring times are late afternoons, evenings and weekends

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this position is $13.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
