Job Summary
Purpose of Position:
The AMT Student Lab Assistant provides laboratory preparation, maintenance, and cleaning. Working alongside department staff, the AMT Student Lab Assistant prepares lab materials for classroom use and assists in managing supply areas.
This position is only open to students with Federal Work Study eligibility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities, covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, in accordance with its requirements.
Duties are numbered for convenience, and do not indicate order in terms of importance, frequency that the duty is performed, or the amount of time spent on the duty.
Assist in the care and maintenance of the Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) lab. Works in cooperation with full-time lab technician to assist in the completion of a variety of job responsibilities. Most commonly:
1) Assists the department staff and/or faculty in the maintenance and operation of the departmental lab.
2) Prepares materials and supplies for laboratories and ensures equipment is ready for use.
3) Sets up materials and supplies in classrooms as needed and collects materials and supplies following use.
4) Ensures equipment is stored properly.
5) Assists in general maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
6) Assists with check-in and storage of delivered supplies.
7) Assists in monitoring levels of supplies.
8) Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Aviation equipment, tools, and supplies. Safety practices and procedures. Have basic knowledge of hand tools and their use.
Skill in: Operations of job-related equipment. Organization skills and attention to detail. Verbal and written communications.
Ability to: Lift/move components weighing up to 50 pounds. Work outside in seasonal temperatures. Recognize and alert faculty when assigned tasks are beyond capability. Recognize and alert faculty/staff of a potential safety concern. Wear eye/ear protection when required. Follow directions and instructions. Develop and maintain working relationships with laboratory staff and others. Ability to work independently and maintain accurate and complete work records. Complete all duties while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Minimum/General Qualifications:
This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.
Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.
Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.
Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.
Schedule:
TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between office hours of Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Maximum 20 hours per week.
Work will be performed: On-site only.

Position Specific Qualifications:
The applicant should have a familiarity with aircraft and aircraft engines or be currently enrolled in airframe or powerplant sections or have completed the general section of AMT training.

Hired students will not be eligible to assist with lab assignments if currently enrolled in the corresponding lab course.
