Radiologic Technologist
Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs Radiologic procedures for the evaluation of pathological entities as ordered by a physician. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices. Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the examination. Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examinations. Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history, as necessary. Prepares the procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes the anatomical structure of the patient, sets up equipment, and performs the Radiologic procedure. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Utilizes patient immobilization as needed. May select and administer intravenous contrast media. Monitors the patient for possible reactions as appropriate to the study and provides immediate care if a reaction should occur. Performs all imaging procedures while demonstrating principles of radiation protection. May involve shielding of patients and selection of appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose, using other ALARA techniques. May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for the procedure. Follows infection control practices and ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Completes all necessary work sheets, logs, patient records, and documentation. When needed, assumes the responsibility of teaching or educating new hires and students while maintaining own responsibilities and duties. Resolves any image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS. Completes all study indexing; including study begin, study end, and completion of the study in the Radiology Information System. Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with the Radiologist before performing studies. Performs all documentation in the medical record and within the Radiology Information System to support clinical and billing functions. Works in various hospital settings with fixed and mobile units. May be exposed to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized. May be exposed to high-voltage equipment and potentially contagious patients. Occasionally may lift or move equipment and/or patients. Demonstrates personal qualities of being self-directed, flexible, and committed to team concepts.
