What is a work study program?

A Work Study Program is a federally or institutionally funded program that provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for educational expenses. These jobs are often located on campus or with approved off-campus employers, and are designed to be flexible with students' class schedules. Participating in work study can help students gain valuable work experience while also assisting with college costs. Not all students qualify, as eligibility is determined through the financial aid application process.

Participating in a Work Study Program allows students to gain valuable work experience directly related to their field of study, often in a flexible environment that accommodates their class schedules. Students typically work part-time on campus or with approved off-campus employers, developing skills such as time management, communication, and teamwork. Balancing work and academics can be challenging, but supervisors in these programs are usually understanding of academic commitments and may offer additional support during exam periods. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ALL QUESTIONS ON THE APPLICATION MUST BE ANSWERED.
Georgia Military College is seeking to hire current students to participate in our Federal Work Study Program at all of our campus locations!
Qualifications to work for FWS are as follows. Students MUST:
  • have completed a financial aid file
  • have need as determined by FAFSA
  • be in "good" standing status according to GMC's Satisfactory Academic Policy
  • have a High School Diploma/GED.

Eligibility for participation in the FWS Program is determined by Financial Aid. If your financial aid file/FAFSA is not complete at the time that your application is submitted, there will be a delay processing your eligibility for the Program. To ensure quick turnaround time from when your application is submitted to when you're notified of your eligibility, it's recommended to check with your Campus Financial Aid Office and establish that your financial aid file is completed prior to applying.
*FWS is a need-based program. If you are deemed eligible for participation in the FWS Program, please note that receiving any sort of student loan (or other form of Financial Aid not initially calculated in your file) after the initial award amount and/or eligibility has been determined by Financial Aid, your eligibility for participation in the FWS Program could potentially change, even if you are already working under the Program. This could mean an increase or decrease of aid award, or being deemed ineligible to participate in the FWS program. If you have questions about this, please contact your Campus Financial Aid office for clarification.
Completion of application and/or approved eligibility does not guarantee placement in a FWS position.
Students MUST pass a Background Screen before being officially hired.
