Job description

Reporting to the Technical Production Manager, we are seeking aLead Audio Visual Technician who will be part of a support team, will support the event production and audio-visual needs of the school, both Conservatory and Preparatory. Working as part of a team, this role is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of performances for both the Conservatory and the Preparatory to produce over 1000 events, including master classes, rehearsals, performances (music, dance, and opera), and student recitals. As a member of the team, the Lead Audio Visual Technician will assist in all aspects of the schools' production activities, but primary duties will be related to sound reinforcement, live audio mixing, and live video production.
The Lead Audio Visual Technician acts as a liaison among the various individuals involved in a production, including the conductor, artistic directors, guest artists, musicians, dancers, and the concert and ensembles staff to ensure an excellent and safe production.
The successful candidate will be motivated, proactive, and an organized team player, while providing excellent support with strong collaboration skills. Attention to detail and a positive work-ethic are a must. Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as needed to appropriately staff events.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manages inventory and allocation of all sound and video equipment based on needs and requests of various shows.
  • Supports stage production, sound, lighting, and technical needs of rehearsal and performances at the Peabody Institute including live audio mixing, sound reinforcement, and setting up A/V equipment, including videos screens, projectors, and video switchers.
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of all events that require A/V support, including advising and collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and guest artists to determine the needs for every event.
  • Responsible for managing a number of public stage events independently.
  • In coordination with the production team, this position will provide all production support as needed for certain events i.e., setting up the stage to conform to the appropriate event, setting up risers, audio visual equipment, stage lighting, setting orchestras, and organizing personnel. Events will include chorus, opera, run outs, ensembles, and dance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Four years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three to five year's experience in live audio mixing, sound reinforcement, live video production and setup.
  • Experience in live classical and modern music productions and knowledge of concert etiquette.
