About Us
Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children. The Assistant Teacher helps implement daily classroom activities, supervises children, promotes positive social and emotional development, and assists with maintaining a clean, organized, and engaging classroom in accordance with all licensing regulations, policies, and procedures. The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to ensure each child's developmental, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs are met while fostering a positive learning environment.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing the daily classroom schedule and lesson plans.
  • Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Support children's learning through developmentally appropriate activities, play, and positive
    interactions.
  • Assist with preparing classroom materials and learning centers.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Assist with conducting and documenting daily health and safety checks.
  • Help monitor children's developmental progress and share observations with the Lead Teacher.
  • Maintain positive and professional communication with families and assist with communication
    through Brightwheel as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Encourage positive behavior using appropriate guidance and classroom management techniques.
  • Assist children with daily routines including meals, toileting, handwashing, rest time, and transitions.
  • Help maintain classroom inventory and notify the Lead Teacher when supplies are needed.
  • Follow all policies and procedures established by the center and Bright from the Start.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
  • Serve as a positive role model for children by maintaining appropriate conduct and appearance.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or suspected child abuse immediately according to center
    policy.
  • Perform light cleaning duties, including sanitizing toys, tables, bathrooms, and classroom materials
    throughout the day.
  • Assist with playground supervision and outdoor activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Program Coordinator, or Director

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience working with young children preferred
  • Must meet all state licensing requirements, including background check and required training
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Have the mobility required to ensure the safety of children.
  • Repetitive bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Ability to sit, kneel, and work with children on the floor.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Visual and hearing abilities consistent with childcare licensing safety requirements.
  • Perform light housekeeping and classroom sanitation.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
