The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-fueled organization whose mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the quality of life for the children and adults affected by these diseases. Our work is dramatically accelerating the research process through our varied research initiatives; we also provide extensive educational and support resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public. In addition, we lead federal and state-based advocacy campaigns to support medical research funding and improve patient access to care. Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and partnering closely with the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership team (SLT), the Vice President, Finance provides strategic financial leadership for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. The VP develops and executes the Foundation's financial strategy, ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability while supporting investment in mission-driven programs and growth initiatives.

The Vice President leads enterprise financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury, financial reporting, audit, tax compliance, and organizational financial strategy. This role serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Trustees by translating financial information into actionable insights that inform strategic decision-making.

The VP Finance also oversees the continued optimization of the Foundation's financial systems, reporting capabilities, and business processes, ensuring the organization fully leverages Workday Financials, Adaptive Planning and future enterprise technology initiatives. Working closely with Foundation leadership, the Vice President fosters financial stewardship across the organization through education, partnership, and data-driven decision making.

This role is hybrid: 2 days/week in the National office in New York City and 3 days/week remote.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Develop and execute the Foundation's long-term financial strategy in alignment with organizational priorities and mission objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, COO, senior leadership team, and Board of Trustees on financial performance, organizational risks, and investment opportunities.
  • Lead enterprise financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling to support strategic decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational efficiency, optimize resource allocation, and maximize mission impact.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead the annual budget, forecast, and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Develop financial models that evaluate operational initiatives, fundraising performance, and strategic investments.
  • Partner with revenue leadership to analyze fundraising trends, campaign performance, and revenue forecasting.
  • Provide executive dashboards, KPI reporting, and financial insights that support organizational decision-making.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Lead enterprise treasury strategy, liquidity management, and cash forecasting.
  • Oversee banking relationships, investment cash planning, and operating liquidity.
  • Collaborate with revenue leaders to maintain accurate short- and long-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor financial risks and recommend strategies to strengthen organizational financial resilience.

Accounting, Audit & Compliance

  • Provide executive oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, audit activities, and tax compliance.
  • Partner closely with the Controller to ensure timely monthly and year-end close processes.
  • Oversee preparation of annual audited financial statements, Form 990, retirement plan audits, and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, donor restrictions, and applicable federal and state regulations.

Board & Executive Reporting

  • Prepare and present financial results, forecasts, and strategic analyses for executive leadership and the Board of Trustees.
  • Serve as primary finance liaison to the Audit, Finance, Investment, and Retirement Committees.
  • Develop executive-level financial presentations and decision-support materials that clearly communicate organizational performance.

Financial Systems & Process Improvement

  • Champion continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting, and business processes.
  • Partner with Information Technology to optimize Workday Financials, support Adaptive Planning implementation, and strengthen enterprise reporting capabilities.
  • Promote automation, data governance, and standardized financial processes that improve efficiency and internal controls.
  • Ensure financial reporting systems evolve to meet changing organizational needs.

Leadership & Organizational Partnership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team while fostering collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Build strong partnerships across Foundation leadership teams.
  • Provide financial education, training, and resources that improve financial literacy and accountability throughout the organization.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, customer service, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; MBA or Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least five years leading finance teams within complex nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting financial information to executive leadership, Board committees, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong experience leading annual audits, Form 990 preparation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven expertise in enterprise financial planning, cash flow forecasting, and organizational financial modeling.
  • Experience leading ERP implementations or optimization initiatives; Workday Financials experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise planning platforms such as Adaptive Planning, Workday Adaptive Planning, or similar solutions preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting technologies, business intelligence tools, and dashboard development.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational change, process improvement, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business insights.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial reporting systems.
