Work From Home Structural Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a work from home structural engineer?

To thrive as a Work From Home Structural Engineer, you need a solid background in structural analysis, mathematics, and engineering principles, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Proficiency with design software like AutoCAD, Revit, and structural analysis tools such as SAP2000 or ETABS is essential for remote collaboration and project delivery. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management are critical soft skills to effectively coordinate with clients and teams while working independently. These skills ensure the engineer can deliver accurate, safe, and timely solutions while maintaining productivity and collaboration outside a traditional office environment.

How do work from home structural engineers typically collaborate with architects and project teams remotely?

Work-from-home structural engineers frequently use digital collaboration tools such as BIM software, video conferencing, and shared document platforms to communicate with architects and project teams. Regular virtual meetings help ensure project alignment, and cloud-based design tools enable real-time feedback and updates on structural plans. While remote work offers flexibility, it also requires strong communication skills and proactive coordination to manage project timelines and address design challenges efficiently.

What does a work from home structural engineer do?

A work from home structural engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and reviewing the structural integrity of buildings and infrastructure from a remote location. They use specialized software to create blueprints, conduct simulations, and ensure that structures meet safety and code requirements. Communication with clients, architects, and construction teams is typically done through digital tools and virtual meetings. This role allows for flexibility but still requires strong collaboration and technical expertise.

What is the difference between Work From Home Structural Engineer vs Structural Designer?

AspectWork From Home Structural EngineerStructural Designer
CredentialsEngineering degree, PE license often requiredDegree in architecture or engineering, certification varies
Work EnvironmentRemote, office, or site visitsPrimarily office-based, some remote work
Industry UsageDesign, analysis, project management in constructionDrafting, detailing, and design support

The main difference is that Work From Home Structural Engineers typically hold engineering licenses and perform analysis and project oversight, while Structural Designers focus on drafting and detailing tasks. Both roles may work remotely, but engineers often have more responsibilities in project approval and structural calculations.

Job description

STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIESdevelops and integrates products, engineering support, repair and maintenance services to provide value-added solutions to owners, engineers and contractors.We provide specialty contracting services through our contracting companies, and state-of-the-art proprietary products and engineering support services through our technologies company. With over 2,500 employees working fromlocations nationwide and in select international markets, we serve the Commercial, Public, Transportation Industrial, and Power markets to tackle the toughest construction challenges. Join Our Team as a Structural Engineer!

STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES is seeking motivated earlycareer engineers to join our nationwide assessment and repair engineering division. Opportunities are available in our Chicago, Columbia, and Houston offices, with remote options in the Charlotte or Chattanooga areas for qualified candidates. This hybrid role combines intentional inperson collaboration with workfromhome flexibility, offering a challenging and rewarding start to your structural engineering career.

As the largest concrete specialty repair contractor in the United States, the STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES group delivers investigatedesignbuild solutions primarily for nuclear, power generation, and industrial clients. Our teams develop innovative repair strategies, integrated products, and engineering support to extend the life and performance of critical infrastructure. In this role, you'll apply and expand your engineering skills while shaping a career path aligned with your interests. We're looking for engineers who want to understand why structures fail - not just design them - and who are eager to be accountable for realworld performance. Supported by experienced mentors, you'll gain handson exposure across engineering and construction disciplines, including:

  • Gain exposure to structural failure mechanisms;
  • Evaluate distressed structures and determine root cause;
  • Decide when repair vs. replacement is appropriate;
  • Design repairs that must be constructible, durable, and safe in live Nuclear or industrial facilities
  • Work side by side with construction teams-not just hand off drawings.

This position offers future career progression to both our business leadership and technical leadership pathways in engineering.

Skills and Qualifications:
