What is a work from home pay per chart medical coder?

Work From Home Pay Per Chart Medical Coders are professionals who review medical records and assign standardized codes for diagnoses and procedures. They work remotely and are typically paid based on the number of charts or patient records they accurately code, rather than an hourly wage or salary. This payment model offers flexibility and the potential to earn more based on productivity, but requires strong attention to detail, up-to-date knowledge of coding standards (such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS), and reliable internet access. Many employers seek certified coders with experience to ensure accuracy and compliance with healthcare regulations.

To thrive as a Work From Home Pay Per Chart Medical Coder, you need a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and typically a certification such as CPC or CCS. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and specialized coding software is essential for accurate and efficient chart review. Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for meeting productivity targets and maintaining accuracy independently. These competencies ensure correct reimbursement, compliance with regulations, and the ability to succeed in a remote, performance-based environment.

As a DataAnnotation’s coder, you’ll be part of a growing community of over 100,000 professionals — including front-end, back-end, full-stack, machine learning, and other engineers — who are driving real-world impact in AI development.

Our platform offers an engaging blend of flexibility and challenge: you’ll work closely with state-of-the-art AI models to take on programming tasks that include creating and solving challenging coding problems, building beautiful apps with rich functionality, and synthesizing insights through data analysis and visualization. • Projects are paid hourly starting at $50-$100+/hr, with bonus rates available on some projects

Responsibilities:

  • Give AI chatbots coding challenges and evaluate their outputs
  • Evaluate the quality produced by AI models for correctness and performance

  • Fluency in English (native or bilingual level)
  • Detail-oriented
  • Experience with algorithms, data structures, and debugging workflows
  • A current, in progress, or completed Bachelor's is preferred but not required
