What is a work from home intake attorney?

A Work From Home Intake Attorney is a licensed lawyer who remotely evaluates potential clients' legal cases for a law firm or legal service. Their primary role is to assess the merits of incoming cases, gather essential information, and determine whether the firm should pursue representation. They may also explain the firm's process, answer client questions, and ensure all necessary documentation is collected. Working remotely allows these attorneys to connect with clients via phone, email, or video calls, providing flexibility while maintaining high professional standards.

How does a work from home intake attorney typically collaborate with other legal team members and clients remotely?

A Work From Home Intake Attorney usually works closely with paralegals, case managers, and senior attorneys through digital platforms such as video calls, secure messaging, and case management software. Regular virtual meetings and scheduled check-ins help maintain clear communication and ensure cases progress smoothly. The attorney also conducts initial client consultations remotely, requiring strong interpersonal and organizational skills to collect pertinent details and assess case viability. Job description

Intake Attorney

Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Remote or hybrid, depending on location
Base Salary: $110,000-$150,000, depending on experience
Bonus: Performance bonus based on team sales results and client sign-ups
Firm: Baker Law Group

About the Role

Baker Law Group is seeking a personable, commercially minded Intake Attorney to help prospective clients understand their legal options and determine how our firm may be able to assist them.

This is not a traditional litigation or case-management position. The Intake Attorney serves at the front end of the client relationship, reviewing pre-screened matters, conducting consultations, identifying potential legal needs, explaining the value of the firm's services, and helping qualified prospective clients move from their initial consultation to becoming signed clients.

The ideal candidate loves the law, enjoys working directly with people, and can combine legal analysis with strong communication and consultative sales skills. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants to remain closely connected to legal work and client service without spending their career managing a litigation caseload or fighting in court.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities include:

  • Review intake notes, case facts, documents, and relevant background before consultations
  • Conduct scheduled and occasional live consultations with pre-screened prospective clients
  • Build trust and rapport quickly during approximately 20- to 30-minute consultations
  • Identify the prospective client's legal problem, goals, and immediate concerns
  • Evaluate matters at a high level and identify potential services the firm may provide
  • Explain Baker Law Group's teams, experience, services, fee structure, and approach
  • Match prospective clients with the appropriate attorney and internal practice group
  • Develop a proposed scope of work based on the client's needs and firm guidelines
  • Recommend the appropriate initial retainer using established firm pricing and service information
  • Clearly communicate the value of legal services and help clients understand why addressing a problem now may prevent greater cost or risk later
  • Prepare thorough and accurate post-consultation notes
  • Enter scopes of work and matter information into Salesforce
  • Review proposed fee agreements for accuracy before they are sent to prospective clients
  • Confirm that the correct services, attorneys, parties, and signatures are included
  • Collaborate with the intake, administrative, sales, and legal teams
  • Help qualified prospective clients move efficiently from consultation to signed engagement
  • Maintain a positive and professional client experience, including when a matter is not a fit for the firm

Consultation Volume and Performance Expectations

The Intake Attorney should be comfortable working in a high-energy, performance-driven environment.

Current expectations include:

  • Approximately 35 consultations per week, depending on lead flow and matter complexity
  • Generally six to seven consultations per day
  • Timely completion of post-consultation notes and follow-up work
  • Accurate scopes of work and fee-agreement information
  • Strong client sign-up and conversion performance
  • Contribution to overall team sales goals
  • Consistent availability throughout the business day for scheduled consultations and occasional live transfers

This is not simply a call-volume position. Each consultation also requires preparation, documentation, internal coordination, and careful review of the proposed engagement.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Experience in criminal, family, or employment law
  • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and good standing
  • Prior legal practice, legal intake, client consultation, or comparable experience
  • Strong client-facing communication skills
  • The ability to build confidence and rapport quickly
  • A consultative, persuasive approach without being overly aggressive
  • The ability to explain legal services, fees, and value in clear, accessible language
  • Sound legal judgment and strong issue-spotting ability
  • Comfort discussing multiple areas of law
  • The ability to learn unfamiliar practice areas and internal processes
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills
  • Careful attention to detail
  • The ability to move quickly between consultations and competing priorities
  • A team-first mindset and the ability to promote the firm rather than focusing only on personal credentials
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to go the extra mile for prospective clients and colleagues

Compensation

Baker Law Group offers:

  • Base salary of $110,000-$150,000, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Benefits including Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance. 401k
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities tied to:
    • Team sales results
    • Client sign-ups and individual performance
    • Achievement of established performance tiers and goals

Why Join Baker Law Group?

This role offers a different way to practice law.

Instead of spending every day managing discovery, deadlines, opposing counsel, and courtroom disputes, the Intake Attorney helps people at the moment they are deciding what to do next. You will listen to their concerns, identify how the firm may be able to help, explain the value of taking action, and connect them with the right legal team.

You will join a growing, multi-state law firm with established intake processes, administrative support, multiple practice groups, and a collaborative team focused on delivering an excellent client experience.
