Job description

Summary
The position is located at the Shiprock Service Unit (SRSU) in Shiprock New Mexico. The purpose of this position is to manage a program for Infection Control and prevention, through leadership, performance improvement and implementation, and technology for the entire SRSU.
A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Help
  • Apply epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification, to identify target population, analyze trends and risk factors, and design and evaluate prevention and control strategies.
  • Conduct on-going surveillance using Center of Disease Control (CDC) infection criteria, documentation, and investigation of healthcare acquired infections through review of admission diagnoses, microbiology culture results, isolation orders, patient records, consultation requests, post-discharge surveillance, and autopsy findings.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Service Unit Infection Control (IC) Program including the TB program and Infection Control and Prevention Plan. Assures that the programs meet all regulatory and accreditation requirement.
  • Collect data and prepare reports in support of epidemiological studies of specific problems or problem areas to determine the source of the problem and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Maintains medical devices, surgical procedures and surgical site infections data into National Health Safety Network (NHSN).

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education

A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure:
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Led the development, implementation, and evaluation of Infection Prevention and Control and other related programs in a complex hospital setting, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Conducted infection surveillance, analyzed epidemiological data, prepared quality and performance reports, and monitored healthcare-associated infection indicators. Developed infection prevention and control policies, delivered staff education, maintained surveillance data, and implemented targeted, evidence-based interventions to improve patient safety and infection prevention outcomes.
Education
This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades.
