Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Planning, Development and Natural Resources (PDNR) team as a Civil PE Manager - Land Development in our Raleigh & Charlotte, NC offices. If you want to work at a company that will help you become the best you can be, we’re glad you found McKim & Creed.

***Candidates must currently reside in either the greater Raleigh or Charlotte NC areas

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering with NC PE registration
  • A minimum of 7-15+ years of experience in land development design for Residential, Commercial and/or Industrial projects required.
  • Strong relationships and knowledge of NC State and local permitting agencies.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and knowledgeable of standard engineering design programs.
  • Very good presentation, technical writing and public speaking skills.
  • An excellent grasp of the land development field along with leadership, team building and communication abilities.
  • Willingness to mentor and train junior engineers.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • Demonstrates an excellent understanding of all aspects of the consulting business especially the finance, business development and contract negotiations.

WHAT TO EXPECT DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Be responsible for project management and design of land (site) development, including commercial and residential development design and permitting for water, sewer, grading, erosion control, and storm drainage.
  • Primary responsibility will be driving strategic growth for the local Raleigh land development organization. Identifying, developing and securing new client and project opportunities.  Building relationships with new clients in the land development industry, including but not limited to developers, architects, builders, contractors and local jurisdictional authorities.
  • Active in professional organizations, professional development and mentoring of staff. Maintains a network of relationships within the field.
  • Develops and maintains existing client relationships. Serve as key contact with major clients
  • Supports the efforts for the preparation of proposals, serve as lead presenter in presentations to secure new project work. Experienced in developing scope of work, time and manpower estimates.
  • Support the Regional Manager in identifying and recruiting professional staff needed to support the growth. Assisting with the interviewing and evaluation process and coordination with human resources department for posting and processing of potential candidates.
  • Active in professional organizations, professional development and mentoring of staff. Maintains a network of relationships within the field
  • Support the Regional Manager in project specific duties such as plan review, quality control, project site visits and coordination with preparation and submittal of project permits.
  • Extensive knowledge of standard practices within appropriate discipline including design and construction. Individually able to carry out complex or innovative assignments requiring the development and implementation of new or improved techniques or procedures
  • Capable of conducting critical negotiations and handling controversial issues. Exercises skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues. Demonstrates good judgment in handling and solving basic and complex technical and people assignments.
  • Individually contributes, formulates and guides solutions to technical problems of exceptional difficulty and marked importance to the company.
  • Responsibilities include conduct preliminary evaluations, prepare various reports, writing proposals, produce design drawings, prepare technical specifications and prepare permit submittals for civil engineering projects in tandem with business development activities to grow footprint
