Job description

Harris Group is looking for a Control Systems Engineer to work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers on a variety of industrial applications. This opportunity will be based in Harris Group's Portland office. Come get involved in the entire lifecycle of projects, from proposals to design to commissioning and start-up!

The Responsibilities

  • Directing control systems testing, equipment commissioning, field testing and system acceptance including operational readiness testing.
  • PLC, DCS, HMI and SCADA system planning, design, programming and upgrade.
  • Supporting multi-disciplinary teams on engineering projects, with a demonstrated commitment to successful project delivery.
  • Developing drawings and specifications for construction. Drawings for construction include network communication block diagrams, control panel details, wiring termination diagrams, instrument location plans, and instrument installation details.
  • Equipment selection, cost estimating, equipment layout and coordination with other engineering disciplines.


The Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, and 3-8 years of experience in PLC programming and HMI or SCADA configuration, with 1 year of field experience.

  • Working knowledge of piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and motor control schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability using Ethernet and control system communication protocols.
  • Experience with Rockwell, Wonderware, and similar PLC/HMI software.
  • Travel up to 20% of the year may be required.
  • A registered professional engineer is preferred.
