Job description

Position Description
Develops, coordinates, and administers academic support programs and student success initiatives designed to promote academic achievement, retention, and progression within the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Provides individualized academic coaching, collaborates with faculty and staff regarding student support strategies, and manages learning support programs, peer mentoring initiatives, and academic intervention processes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Supports the OCOM-approved policies and ensures that they are adhered to
  • Creates, implements, and oversees integrated plans comprising targeted programs and services designed to provide individualized structured assistance for students with academic challenges. The plans are proactive, sustained, and implemented to enhance student success and develop independent, self-motivated learners.
  • Creates, manages, and runs the learning specialist program. To include but not limited to presentations, workshops, student coaching and learning assignments.
  • Creates, implements, and oversees data-driven programs and services to meet the unique needs of the most academically challenged students with the goal of increasing retention and graduation.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized COMLEX preparation plans for students, utilizing academic performance data, COMSAE results, NBOME resources, and faculty recommendations to promote board readiness and successful first-time COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2 performance.
  • Track and evaluate student progress toward COMLEX readiness benchmarks, identifying at-risk students through academic performance metrics, practice examination scores, and faculty referrals, while collaborating with Student Affairs, course directors, and clinical education to develop and implement academic intervention plans.
  • Coordinate and facilitate board preparation programming, including workshops, study schedules, COMSAE preparation sessions, and readiness assessments, while maintaining accurate documentation of student participation, progress, and outcomes.
  • Creates, manages, and implements peer tutor and teaching assistant programs
  • Works collaboratively with Academic Advisors to monitor student progress and provide interventional support
  • Schedule and monitor the use of academic services and resources including tutoring, and suggestions of data-driven interventions.
  • Works with faculty and course directors for best practices to improve student outcomes
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, college, and other outside agency rules and regulations
  • Ensures confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Assists in accreditation functions, including document creation, data collection, data entry, education of staff on accreditation, and other accreditation-related functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements
Qualification(s):
  • Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years (or Bachelor and 10 years) of full-time experience in a student learning role
  • Previous experience as a Learning Specialist at an Osteopathic or Allopathic Medical College is preferred.
  • A team player who values cooperation, mutual support, and team cohesion
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be local to the Central Florida area.
