What is a work based learning program with AWS?

A Work Based Learning Program with AWS is an educational initiative that combines classroom instruction with real-world work experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies. These programs are designed to help students and professionals gain hands-on cloud computing skills by working on projects, internships, or apprenticeships in partnership with employers. Participants learn about cloud infrastructure, deployment, and AWS services, making them more competitive in the job market. Such programs often include mentorship, industry certifications, and exposure to real business challenges.

How does participating in an AWS work based learning program help prepare candidates for a cloud-focused career?

Participating in an AWS Work-Based Learning Program offers hands-on experience with key AWS cloud services, allowing candidates to apply classroom concepts to real-world projects. You'll typically collaborate with mentors and teammates in a structured environment, working on tasks such as cloud migration, automation, and security configuration. This immersion helps build both technical and professional skills, making you more competitive for roles such as cloud support associate or solutions architect. Additionally, exposure to industry best practices and networking opportunities within the program can significantly accelerate your career growth in cloud computing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a work based learning program focused on AWS, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Work-Based Learning Program focused on AWS, you need foundational knowledge of cloud computing concepts, basic programming skills, and familiarity with networking, supported by relevant coursework or entry-level certifications like AWS Cloud Practitioner. Hands-on experience with AWS tools such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and the AWS Management Console is typically required, along with understanding of version control systems like Git. Strong problem-solving abilities, willingness to learn, and effective communication are important soft skills for adapting to real-world technical environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for successfully applying cloud concepts in practical settings and collaborating with teams to solve business challenges.

Works with minimal day-to-day supervision, exercises sound judgment within established priorities and policies, and proactively identifies, resolves, and escalates issues as appropriate.

Position Specific Expected Job Contributions
  • Provides logistical support for virtual, in-person, and blended Learning programs, meetings, events, and occasional conferences.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for learner, facilitator, and stakeholder customer service, responding within established service expectations and providing clear follow-up.
  • Provides instructor and facilitator logistical support, including schedules, rosters, materials, prework, confirmations, participant communications, and delivery support.
  • Provides technical and administrative support for learning platforms and related tools, including class set-up, enrollment and unenrollment, participant status tracking, prerequisite and learning-history checks, completion management, reporting, and billing support.
  • Maintains accurate rosters, trackers, shared resources, source data, and program records using consistent documentation, naming, and version-control practices.
  • Troubleshoots routine system, access, and process issues; documents resolution steps and escalates issues with sufficient context when additional support is required.
  • Coordinates assigned workstreams and project launches from planning through closeout, including milestones, dependencies, risks, decisions, handoffs, and follow-up actions.
  • Prioritizes daily work based on business needs, program calendars, service commitments, and leader direction; identifies competing priorities early and recommends options or tradeoffs.
  • Anticipates operational risks, resolves routine issues independently, and escalates material risks, policy questions, budget concerns, or decisions outside role authority.
  • Manages multiple programs and changing priorities while meeting commitments, deadlines, and quality expectations with limited supervision.
  • Supports the measurement strategy for training programs, including participant and facilitator evaluations, completion data, and operational reporting.
  • Compiles and validates data, identifies trends or exceptions, and translates findings into clear updates for program leaders and stakeholders.
  • Assists with execution of sustainment mechanisms, recurring communications, resource updates, reinforcement activities, and process documentation for Learning/HR programs.
  • Creates, maintains, proofreads, and edits learner, facilitator, and stakeholder communications, job aids, templates, internal pages, and procedural documentation to ensure accuracy and high quality.
  • Manages materials fulfillment and coordinates required third-party vendors or assessment providers.
  • Works effectively with Learning Technology, Implementation, Program Management, Communications, other Centers of Excellence, facilitators, vendors, and business stakeholders as needed.
  • Coordinates vendor logistics, deliverables, timelines, billing support, and issue resolution within established agreements and role authority.
  • Completes work within approved budget guidelines and promptly raises discrepancies or potential cost impacts.
  • Identifies opportunities to simplify, standardize, consolidate, or automate work and supports implementation of approved process improvements.
  • Protects confidential information and follows approved data-handling, accessibility, records, security, and compliance requirements.
EXPERIENCE
  • Proven track record coordinating projects, programs, events, or operational launches involving multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
  • Background supporting a Learning, Talent, Human Resources, hospitality, lodging, service, or similarly customer-focused function preferred.
  • Experience providing customer support, maintaining accurate operational records, and coordinating work across teams or vendors.
  • Experience with learning management systems and virtual learning platforms preferred.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Experience and knowledge in logistics, program coordination, process flow, and operational execution.
  • Project and work management skills, including prioritization, issue tracking, risk escalation, documentation, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Communication skills, including listening, oral and written communication, facilitation support, presentation, proofreading, editing, and audience-focused messaging.
  • Familiarity with classroom, virtual, online, and blended learning delivery options and media.
  • Research, data gathering, validation, analysis, reporting, and process-measurement skills.
  • Procedural documentation, job aid, template, and knowledge-management skills.
  • Ability to elicit information from subject-matter experts and translate it into clear operational requirements or communications.
  • Business and process knowledge related to Marriott functions, culture, systems, customers, quality measures, and stakeholder needs.
  • Digital proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Smartsheet; experience with learning management systems and other required learning technologies preferred.
  • Ability to connect operational work to learner, stakeholder, and organizational outcomes.
ATTRIBUTES
  • Service-oriented and responsive; follows through with learners, facilitators, stakeholders, and team members.
