What is WordPress consulting?

WordPress consulting is a professional service where experts provide advice, guidance, and hands-on support to individuals or organizations using WordPress for their websites. Consultants can help with a variety of tasks, including website setup, customization, security, performance optimization, plugin selection, and troubleshooting. Their goal is to ensure that a WordPress site meets the client’s needs and runs efficiently. WordPress consultants often work with clients ranging from small businesses to large enterprises, offering both strategic recommendations and technical solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a WordPress Consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a WordPress Consultant, you need expertise in WordPress development, website design, SEO, and a strong understanding of web hosting and security, often supported by relevant experience or a portfolio. Familiarity with tools like page builders (e.g., Elementor), plugins, Google Analytics, and basic coding (HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript) is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate client requirements into actionable solutions help set top consultants apart. These skills ensure the delivery of effective, user-friendly websites that meet client goals and industry standards.

Made in the Shade is a leading window treatment franchise with more than 150 locally owned locations across the United States and Canada. Our franchise owners specialize in custom blinds, shades, shutters, drapery, and motorized window treatment solutions, delivering professional design consultations and installation services directly to homeowners in their local communities.
As our franchise network continues to grow, our Home Office team provides the marketing, website, technology, and operational support our owners need to succeed. We manage a large portfolio of local franchise websites and digital marketing systems designed to help each location grow in its market.
Made in the Shade is hiring a full-time, in-office WordPress & Local SEO Specialist to manage, maintain, and optimize 150+ local franchise websites built in WordPress. This role is based at our San Antonio Home Office and requires working on-site Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This is not a remote, freelance, hybrid, or contract position. Applicants must be able to work in our San Antonio office Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
About the Role
Our websites are built using established WordPress templates and theme builders, primarily Kadence and Divi. This role is not focused on building custom websites from scratch every day. Instead, it requires someone who can manage websites at scale, improve local SEO performance, troubleshoot issues, update pages, optimize content structure, and help maintain a consistent, high-quality web presence across many local markets.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working inside WordPress, understands local SEO best practices, can troubleshoot technical website issues, and enjoys improving systems that support many locations at once.
Responsibilities
  • Build, update, and maintain WordPress websites using Kadence, Divi, and existing website templates
  • Manage and optimize a portfolio of 150+ local franchise websites
  • Implement Local SEO strategies for individual markets and location-based websites
  • Optimize website pages for local search visibility, including page titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal links, image optimization, and location-based content
  • Improve website performance, page speed, mobile usability, and Core Web Vitals
  • Maintain website structure and content consistency across multiple franchise locations
  • Implement and maintain schema markup and other technical SEO best practices
  • Monitor website health, plugin updates, theme updates, security items, broken links, redirects, and technical issues
  • Troubleshoot WordPress issues and provide technical support to the marketing team as needed
  • Collaborate with marketing and leadership on website improvements, SEO initiatives, landing pages, and digital growth projects
  • Recommend improvements to help franchise locations improve local visibility and lead generation
  • Use SEO tools, analytics, and reporting data to identify opportunities and track performance
Qualifications
  • 35 years of professional WordPress experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Local SEO and on-page SEO
  • Experience using WordPress theme builders such as Kadence, Divi, Elementor, or similar tools
  • Understanding of technical SEO, schema markup, redirects, site structure, page speed, and mobile optimization
  • Experience managing multiple websites, location pages, franchise websites, or multi-location SEO campaigns preferred
  • Comfortable working with plugins, updates, templates, forms, tracking scripts, and website troubleshooting
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and how to make front-end website updates inside WordPress
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize requests, and stay organized
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain website or SEO issues clearly
  • Must be able to work in-office in San Antonio, TX, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with franchise, multi-location, or service-area business websites
  • Experience with Google Business Profiles and local search ranking factors
  • Experience with GA4, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, or similar SEO tools
  • Experience with website speed optimization and Core Web Vitals
  • Experience with WordPress hosting platforms such as WP Engine
  • Experience creating or optimizing landing pages for lead generation
  • Familiarity with tracking forms, phone calls, UTMs, pixels, and conversion tracking
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
The right person is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable managing a large number of websites without getting overwhelmed. They do not need to be a custom app developer, but they do need to know WordPress well, understand how SEO impacts local lead generation, and be able to solve problems without needing every step explained.
This role is best for someone who enjoys improving existing websites, building repeatable systems, and helping local businesses grow through better digital visibility.
Important Requirement
This is a full-time, in-office position based in San Antonio, TX. Applicants must be able to work on-site Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Remote applicants, freelance applicants, hybrid applicants, and agencies will not be considered.
