Wood Applications Technologist
Location: Moncure, NC
Onsite Position
MW Talent is partnering with a leading manufacturer of resin technologies for engineered wood products to identify a Wood Applications Technologist. This position will support product development, laboratory testing, customer trials, and commercialization efforts for innovative resin technologies used in wood-based composites.
Working closely with Product Development, Research & Technology, Manufacturing, Sales, and customers, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and successful implementation of new products in commercial applications.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the Wood-Based Composites team in achieving product development and commercialization objectives.
• Conduct laboratory experiments and testing of new and modified resin products using established procedures and industry standards.
• Analyze test results and utilize statistical methods to evaluate product performance.
• Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate documentation of laboratory activities, testing, and results.
• Support product scale-up activities and collaborate with multiple departments to ensure successful project execution.
• Develop and execute customer trial plans in partnership with commercial and technical teams.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing and customer trials.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Work in a variety of settings, including product development laboratories, applications laboratories, manufacturing facilities, customer sites, wood shops, and office environments.
• Work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Wood Science from an accredited college or university.
• 2 to 3 years of experience in an industrial laboratory environment. A Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• Experience conducting laboratory testing and product evaluations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently follow established procedures.
• Proficiency with laboratory instruments, testing equipment, and computer software.
• Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and present technical findings.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and statistical analysis tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work with hazardous materials and safely operate woodworking equipment while following safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of particleboard, MDF, plywood, or other engineered wood manufacturing processes.
• Understanding of engineering processes used in resin production.
• Experience supporting product development, commercialization, and customer trials.
