Job description

Pattern Maker
Pattern making is one of the first and most important steps in the casting process. Patternmakers are responsible for producing patterns usually made out of wood, metal or model board. These patterns are used to create cavities in molds, that are then filled with molten metal to create a casting.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Create and modify patterns and core boxes according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ensure patterns meet dimensional and geometric tolerances by using a variety of measurement equipment
  • Building, mounting, rigging, and set-up of the pattern equipment
  • Requires heavy lifting and extensive use of impact wrenches and drills, both electric and air
  • Dimension check castings and pattern equipment to blueprints
  • Build patterns, core boxes and gauges to print
  • Maintain and repair all patternmaking equipment, woodworking machinery and gauges
  • Rebuild or remodel equipment for engineering changes
  • Ensure that patterns are prepared in a timely manner as dictated by the production schedule and that all castings are produced to the dimensions specified for the specific part
  • Pattern changes (set-ups or carrier changes) for production
  • Perform regular repair and modification on existing tooling
  • Clean and finish patterns or templates, using emery cloths, files, scrapers, and power grinders.
  • Construct fixtures for different departments and process as needed
  • Paint or lacquer patterns
  • Follow instructions and/or direction given by supervisors to complete assigned work projects
  • Ensure work area is clean and safe

Requirements:
  • Experience in pattern making or related experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of foundry process a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow direction
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work scheduled hours and comply with all other company policies

Required Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted. Physical capability to properly handle tooling and safely set up large pieces; including lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning products. Must be able to stand, sit and bend for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
Manufacturing environment: loud noise levels, high temperatures, dirt and sand.
Required PPE: steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, dust masks, and/or respirators.
