Job description

The Senior Warehouse Distribution SME provides expert technical guidance and process improvement leadership across warehouse operations, distribution management, inventory accuracy, and warehouse optimization. This role supports high-security, industrial manufacturing, and mission-critical logistics environments where material availability, traceability, controlled movement, and inventory integrity are essential to performance.
Using Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and other automated warehouse solutions, the Senior Warehouse Distribution SME evaluates warehouse layout, material flow, storage practices, distribution processes, and inventory control procedures to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, accountability, and throughput. The SME supports improvements across receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, kitting, staging, shipping, cycle counting, and reconciliation, helping reduce bottlenecks, improve space utilization, strengthen inventory accuracy, and align warehouse operations with production and mission requirements.
To promote consistency across the enterprise, the Senior Warehouse Distribution SME also supports periodic site visits to other warehouse facilities, up to five times per year. During these visits, the SME applies the same assessment and improvement framework used at the primary location: reviewing local workflows, validating inventory and distribution practices, identifying site-specific constraints, coaching warehouse personnel, and recommending practical improvements that align with standardized processes, system capabilities, and mission needs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide senior-level subject matter expertise in warehouse operations, distribution management, material flow, inventory control, and warehouse optimization.
  • Assess warehouse layouts, storage strategies, picking/put-away processes, staging areas, and distribution workflows to identify opportunities to improve throughput, space utilization, safety, and accountability.
  • Support warehouse optimization efforts within high-security manufacturing or industrial environments where material availability, traceability, and controlled movement are mission-critical.
  • Analyze inventory accuracy processes, cycle count practices, reconciliation procedures, and reporting methods; recommend improvements that strengthen control, tracking, variance resolution, and auditability.
  • Use Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and related automated warehouse tools to support inventory visibility, transaction accuracy, distribution planning, and performance reporting.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement methods, when applicable, to reduce waste, eliminate bottlenecks, improve material flow, and increase warehouse efficiency.
  • Support or oversee transitions from manual inventory tracking to automated warehouse solutions, including mobile scanning, barcode/RFID-enabled processes, automated storage/retrieval systems (ASRS), and related hardware or system enhancements, when applicable.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to other warehouse facilities, up to five times per year, to assess local operations, validate inventory and distribution practices, identify site-specific improvement opportunities, and support consistent implementation of standardized warehouse processes.
  • Provide practical recommendations, implementation guidance, and coaching to warehouse personnel to ensure process improvements are understood, adopted, and sustained.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience supporting warehouse operations, distribution management, inventory control, material handling, or related logistics functions.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-security, industrial manufacturing, defense, federal production, or other controlled operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience improving warehouse layout, storage strategy, material flow, picking/put-away processes, staging areas, or distribution workflows.
  • Advanced proficiency using Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) to support inventory, purchasing, warehouse, distribution, reporting, or related operational functions.
  • Advanced proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or comparable automated warehouse platforms.
  • Experience supporting inventory accuracy, cycle counts, reconciliation, automated distribution processes, transaction tracking, and warehouse performance reporting.
  • Ability to assess current warehouse operations, identify bottlenecks or control gaps, and recommend practical improvements that support throughput, accountability, space utilization, and mission requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to document findings, brief recommendations, and coordinate with warehouse, production, logistics, IT, and leadership stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience applying Lean Six Sigma, continuous improvement, or similar process improvement methods to improve space utilization, reduce operational waste, and strengthen warehouse efficiency.
  • Experience supporting the transition from manual inventory tracking to automated warehouse solutions, such as mobile scanning, barcode/RFID-enabled processes, automated storage/retrieval systems (ASRS), or similar warehouse technology.
  • Experience conducting warehouse assessments, site visits, operational reviews, or process improvement support across multiple facilities.
  • Experience supporting warehouse modernization, EBS/WMS optimization, or integration of automated hardware and system-enabled inventory controls.
