Job description

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join a hi tech engineering organization in Virginia Beach, Virginia on a Contract to permanent basis. This role is ideal for a senior infrastructure specialist who can take ownership of complex environments across networking, servers, cloud platforms, and security technologies. The position requires a hands-on engineer who is comfortable solving escalated technical issues, guiding technical projects, and partnering with both internal teams and end users to deliver reliable IT operations.
Responsibilities:
• Architect, deploy, and support enterprise infrastructure solutions spanning network, server, cloud, and security environments.
• Act as the top-level technical resource for advanced incidents involving connectivity, systems performance, identity services, and platform stability.
• Drive infrastructure improvement efforts, including new implementations, major upgrades, modernization projects, and environment migrations.
• Manage and enhance Microsoft 365 and Azure services, including identity, collaboration, endpoint management, and cloud-hosted infrastructure.
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical servers, virtual machines, and associated storage platforms.
• Provide responsive technical assistance through remote support and onsite service when operational needs require in-person engagement.
• Coach entry-level engineering staff and technicians by sharing technical guidance, reviewing work quality, and reinforcing operational best practices.
• Produce accurate technical documentation and clearly communicate solutions, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.• 10+ years of senior-level experience supporting and engineering complex IT infrastructure environments.
• Advanced expertise with enterprise networking, including VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, wireless technologies, and network segmentation.
• Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft 365 administration.
• Proven knowledge of virtualization and server technologies, including VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, backup, replication, and disaster recovery planning.
• Experience designing, deploying, and supporting Azure infrastructure services such as virtual networks, virtual machines, and identity and access management.
• Ability to troubleshoot peripheral and end-user technologies, including printers, scanners, copiers, and hardware-related issues.
• Background supporting telephony and VoIP solutions, including provisioning, routing, voice services, and diagnosis of call quality issues.
• Excellent communication, customer-facing, and documentation skills, with demonstrated success leading projects and mentoring other technical professionals.
