About The Role
As a Wireless Systems Software Engineer, you will help build the core software libraries and system infrastructure that power the next generation of wireless experiences at HP IQ. You will work across hardware, firmware, embedded software, operating systems, and product teams to integrate and optimize multiple wireless technologies, including Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), NFC, and future connectivity solutions.
You will play a key role in designing scalable software architectures that bridge hardware and software, enabling seamless communication across embedded devices and host platforms. This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging system-level problems, influence the architecture of a new wireless ecosystem, and help define technologies that will shape the future of work.
What You Might Do
  • Serve as a technical expert across wireless technologies including Bluetooth, UWB, NFC, and related embedded communication interfaces.
  • Architect, design, and develop reusable, scalable wireless software libraries with well-defined APIs that support multiple products and platforms.
  • Design and integrate embedded software components that interface with wireless chipsets using industry-standard buses such as I²C, SPI, UART, and USB.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, OS, and application teams to integrate wireless subsystems into new products.
  • Drive system-level debugging, performance optimization, and feature development across embedded and host software layers.
  • Perform bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting of new wireless hardware platforms.
  • Analyze system resource utilization, including memory footprint, CPU usage, power consumption, and latency, and optimize software for constrained embedded environments.
  • Partner with program management and quality teams to investigate complex field issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement robust long-term solutions.
  • Influence system architecture to ensure modularity, scalability, backward compatibility, and long-term maintainability across multiple product generations.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical leadership while promoting engineering best practices.
  • Identify technical risks early and propose architectural improvements that improve reliability, extensibility, and development velocity.

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of software development experience focused on embedded systems, wireless technologies, or systems software.
  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ and embedded or systems software development.
  • Experience integrating wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, UWB, NFC, or similar connectivity solutions.
  • Strong understanding of embedded communication protocols including I²C, SPI, UART, USB, and GPIO interfaces.
  • Experience designing modular software architectures and reusable libraries with stable API boundaries.
  • Solid understanding of embedded system design principles, including memory estimation, resource allocation, power management, and performance optimization.
  • Experience debugging hardware/software interactions using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, or embedded logging tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across firmware, OS, hardware, and product teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with one or more wireless technologies including Bluetooth, UWB, NFC, Wi-Fi, or emerging short-range communication protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers such as Ellisys, Frontline, or equivalent debugging tools.
  • Familiarity with wireless coexistence challenges across Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, UWB, and NFC.
  • Experience bringing up new embedded hardware platforms and working closely with silicon vendors.
  • Knowledge of RTOS, Linux, Android, or Windows system software.
  • Experience with embedded performance profiling, memory optimization, and low-power system design.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical discussions, and influencing software architecture.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and work across multiple engineering disciplines.

Salary range: $140,000 - $225,000
