Job description

Wireless Engineer

Location: Tampa, FL (100% Onsite)

Employment Type: Contract

Duration: 12 Weeks

Overview

TEKsystems is partnering to identify two Wireless Engineers to support a critical Epic deployment initiative. These individuals will serve as technical leads responsible for assessing wireless network readiness across multiple healthcare and ambulatory facilities throughout the Greater Tampa Bay area.

A candidate applying NEEDS TO HAVE EKAHAU enterprise wireless networking experience, strong RF engineering expertise, and prior experience conducting wireless assessments. This role requires a hands-on engineer capable of performing wireless surveys, analyzing performance and coverage, identifying issues, and presenting remediation recommendations to both technical and executive stakeholders.

Position Summary

The Wireless Engineer serves as the technical lead for enterprise wireless readiness assessments supporting Epic deployment initiatives across healthcare facilities. This individual will be responsible for planning, executing, analyzing, and reporting on wireless network performance, coverage, capacity, interference, and roaming characteristics while providing strategic remediation recommendations to client stakeholders.

The Wireless Engineer will lead onsite survey activities and ensure deliverables meet client requirements for Epic readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead wireless assessment activities across multiple healthcare and clinical facilities.

• Conduct active and passive wireless surveys utilizing Ekahau AI Pro and Sidekick 2.

• Analyze RF environments including 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz spectrum utilization.

• Validate wireless coverage, capacity, signal strength, redundancy, and roaming performance.

• Perform spectrum analysis to identify Wi-Fi and non-Wi-Fi interference sources.

• Execute and analyze iPerf3 throughput and roaming tests.

• Develop wireless heatmaps and coverage models.

• Identify network performance gaps against Epic wireless requirements and industry best practices.

• Create site-specific assessment reports and executive-level findings presentations.

• Develop access point remediation recommendations including placement, configuration, antenna alignment, and optimization strategies.

• Collaborate with client infrastructure, network, and clinical technology teams.

• Provide risk assessments and readiness recommendations supporting Epic go-live activities.

• Lead client status meetings and technical review sessions.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of enterprise wireless networking experience.

• Experience performing wireless assessments in healthcare, hospital, or highly regulated environments.

• Deep understanding of: 

â—‹ 802.11 wireless standards

â—‹ RF propagation

â—‹ Roaming optimization

â—‹ Spectrum analysis

â—‹ Capacity planning

â—‹ QoS for voice and real-time applications

• Experience with Ekahau AI Pro and Ekahau Sidekick.

• Experience with wireless performance testing tools such as iPerf3.

• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

• Ability to develop technical reports and executive summaries.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Business Impact

Moffitt Cancer Center is currently implementing Epic across its healthcare facilities. Reliable wireless infrastructure is a critical component of a successful Epic deployment. If facilities do not have sufficient wireless coverage, capacity, performance, and roaming capabilities, clinical systems may not function effectively, directly impacting patient care and operational efficiency.

The Wireless Engineer will be instrumental in ensuring wireless readiness prior to Epic go-live by identifying risks, validating performance, and recommending remediation strategies.
