What is a wireless DAS?

A Wireless DAS (Distributed Antenna System) job involves designing, installing, and maintaining wireless communication systems that enhance signal coverage in buildings, stadiums, and other structures. Professionals in this role work with RF engineering, network infrastructure, and troubleshooting to ensure efficient signal distribution. They may collaborate with carriers, construction teams, and IT departments to optimize wireless performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the wireless DAS position?

To excel as a Wireless DAS (Distributed Antenna System) Engineer, you need expertise in RF engineering, wireless telecommunications, and a solid understanding of in-building wireless systems, often backed by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as iBwave, RF design software, spectrum analyzers, and certifications like CWNA or IBT are highly valuable. Strong project management, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with both technical teams and clients are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure successful design, deployment, and maintenance of reliable wireless coverage solutions in complex environments.

What are the typical challenges faced by a wireless DAS engineer in their daily work?

Wireless DAS Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting signal interference, ensuring seamless coverage in complex buildings, and keeping up with rapid advancements in wireless standards. They may need to coordinate with building managers, IT teams, and contractors to address installation or optimization issues, all while meeting strict project deadlines. Staying detail-oriented and adaptable helps overcome these hurdles and ensures robust wireless performance for end users.

Entry Level Estimator - Wireless/DAS Infrastructure

Team LINX

Denver, CO โ€ข On-site

Job description

LINX is hiring an entry-level Wireless Estimator to build bid packages and proposals for public safety and cellular distributed antenna system (DAS) projects across our wireless division. You do not need prior DAS or RF experience. LINX will teach you the technology. What we need is someone who is comfortable with math, spreadsheets, and technical documents, and who wants to build a real career in wireless infrastructure estimating.

This role is based in Denver, CO with a hybrid office schedule. You'll work directly with experienced estimators, RF engineers, sales, project management, and procurement on live opportunities from the first week, not shadowing indefinitely before getting real work.

Salary: $65,000 to $80,000 per year

Where This Role Fits at LINX

This is not a role with a series of title changes as you gain experience. You'll hold the Estimator title while the size, complexity, and technical demands of the projects you own grow substantially, from routine public safety systems early on to complex, high value DAS work that requires close coordination with RF engineering.

From there, LINX Wireless offers real lateral movement into several tracks as your interests and strengths become clear:

  • Sales Engineering (customer facing technical support for the sales team)
  • DAS Design Engineering
  • Project Management
  • Preconstruction Management
  • Operations Leadership

Where you go from here depends on what you're good at and what you want to do next, not a fixed sequence of promotions.

What You'll Be Doing

Estimate Development

  • Review project drawings, floor plans, customer requirements, and opportunity documents to scope public safety and cellular DAS projects
  • Develop preliminary system designs using established LINX tools, templates, and design rules of thumb
  • Build complete bills of materials and price project work in Excel

Takeoffs and Documentation Support

  • Measure buildings and interpret floor plans to support material, labor, and equipment takeoffs using Bluebeam
  • Maintain and improve estimating templates, standards, and project files as you learn LINX's internal systems

Proposal and Bid Package Preparation

  • Prepare clear, accurate, customer facing proposals and bid packages that the sales team presents to clients
  • Identifyproject risks, assumptions, and scope gaps before they become pricing errors, and flag them for review rather than guessing

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate directly with sales, engineering, project management, operations, and procurement to gather missing information and resolve open questions on active bids
  • Participate in internal estimate reviews, post bid reviews, and project turnover meetings

Technical Growth

  • Learn RF and DAS fundamentals, includingcomponentcharacteristics, manufacturer product lines, and the equipment used in LINX Wireless solutions
  • Take on larger and more technically complex projects as your judgment and RF knowledge develop
  • Begin supporting direct customer conversations as a technical resource once you've built the experience to represent the wireless team with confidence

Minimum Requirements

Required

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office 365, including the ability to build and work in structured spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated ability to work with detailed technical documents, drawings, or numeric data and catch inconsistencies or errors in them
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents — Scope of Work, Bill of Materials, as-builts, blueprints, and project schedules

Preferred (not required)

  • Associate's or bachelor'sdegree, or equivalent experience, in engineering, business, finance, construction, or telecommunications
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam
  • Exposure to RF, cellular technology, low voltage systems, or construction plans
  • Exposure to CAD, iBwave, or other RF modeling platforms
  • Prior construction, field, or trade experience with an interest in moving into an office based analytical role

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Rate: $65,000 to $80,000 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k) with 50% employer match on the first 5% contributed
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with FSA and HSA options
  • Short and long-term disability coverage
  • 3 weeks PTO (vacation and sick combined)
  • 8 paid holidays
  • Manufacturer training and certification support
  • Growth path into RF engineering, project management, preconstruction management, or operations leadership

About LINX

Founded in 2003 by working industry practitioners, LINX has grown into a national commercial low voltage contractor with completed projects in all 50 states. Our Wireless division designs and deploys public safety ERCES systems, cellular DAS, and in-building wireless infrastructure for hospitals, corporate campuses, higher education, and commercial construction projects across every market LINX serves.

As LINX expands into new regional markets, the estimating and preconstruction team is the group that turns a new market opportunity into a project LINX can actually win and build. An Estimator who develops real technical judgment here becomes one of the people that growth depends on.
