Opportunity

We are seeking a Wireless Communication Systems Engineer to join our R&D team. The role reports to the R&D Director, Communications Systems and will participate in all phases of wireless technology projects including planning, design, implementation, prototyping, verification, and validation. The position is based at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA, on a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three onsite days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays).

Role and Responsibilities
  • System design and requirement specification.
  • Algorithmic development, simulation, and characterization.
  • System performance simulation, benchmarking, and testing.
  • Supporting FPGA and Software development teams through fixed‑point design, implementation, and test.
  • Leading a team of multidisciplinary engineers for product and feature development as needed.
  • Setting, tracking, and driving development schedules and tasks.
  • Planning and participation in laboratory and field testing and troubleshooting.
  • Technical material preparation and documentation.
  • Participation in R&D business development and capture efforts as needed.
  • Understanding current products and technologies and participation in discussion and planning for future enhancements and strategies.
  • Infrequent travel to support customer interactions or test and demonstration events.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a minimum of three years of experience in the design and development of wireless communication systems; or a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with wireless communication protocols and modem architecture, including PHY, MAC, and higher‑layer interactions.
  • Working knowledge of RF propagation, channel modeling, and wireless channel characteristics.
  • Solid understanding of digital communication and signal processing techniques, including MIMO, OFDM, synchronization, channel estimation, equalization, and related algorithms.
  • Understanding of RF impairments and their impact on wireless communication systems, including AGC, phase noise, frequency and clock offset, IQ imbalance, and compensation techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB for algorithm development, modeling, simulation, and performance analysis.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Wireless mobile ad‑hoc networking, medium access, and routing algorithms.
  • Participation in the complete wireless technology development cycle: from design to field testing.
  • Comprehensive expertise in all parts of digital communication systems such as RF subsystems, synchronizations, channel estimation, channel coding, etc.
  • Cognitive radio congested and contested spectrum and interference mitigation.
  • Experience with fixed‑point modeling, implementation, and verification.
  • RF sensing, signal detection, and classification.
  • Technical writing and presentation.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Office environment with occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens during field tests or demonstrations. Required duties include lifting equipment up to 20 lbs., bending, reaching, kneeling or squatting to access shelves, and walking/moving in labs.

Compensation

$100,000 - $140,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Travel Requirements

Under 10% travel. Relocation assistance available.
