Job description

Repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits and equipment within an establishment using hand tools, and testing instruments. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, and/or testing lamp.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits and equipment.
  2. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
  3. Performs duties using ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, and/or testing lamp.
  4. Replaces faulty switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems.
  5. Inspects equipment and diagnoses trouble.
  6. Dismantles electrical machinery and replaces defective electrical or mechanical parts such as gears, brushes, and armatures.
  7. Mount motors, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.
  8. Inspects completed work and insures that work conforms to requirements of local building and safety codes.
  9. Responsible for conducting all works in a safe, clean and orderly manner.
  10. May perform other duties as requested.
  11. May participate on project teams as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to present information in one-on-one situations to customers and other employees.
  • Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, whole numbers, fractions, & decimals.
  • Other Skills: Knowledge of mechanics, shop math, and machinery procedures. Ability to work within close tolerances of .001 to .003 inches. Ability to work from blueprints and/or sketches.

  • Fine Manipulation of Hands/Fingers: Sufficient coordination to place and screw a small washer on a bolt, to pick-up clip from a desk top, or pick up a dime off a counter top. Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Ability to work in two (2) person teams.
