Job description

Job Title: Crane Operator (Night Shift)

Location: Fourchon, LA

Position Overview: A Crane Operator is responsible for the safe operation of hydraulic and mechanical boom/cable cranes used for moving, lifting, and manipulating necessary materials and personnel.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Perform daily inspections of cranes before use.
  • Check wire rope, blocks, etc. (as applicable) every week.
  • Assist in general and routine maintenance and service of cranes, including cleaning out treads, changing oil, grease, and cables, as well as tightening tracks.
  • Operate cranes to lift, move, and position loads such as machinery, equipment, products, and solid or bulk materials.
  • Observe load hook-up and determine the safety of the load.
  • Manipulate or depress crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate the speed and direction of equipment and hoist movement according to verbal or signal instructions.
  • Weigh materials or products and record weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities.
  • Assist in directing helpers engaged in placing blocking and out rigging under cranes.

Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of directly related experience in a similar position preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to safely operate all heavy equipment and machinery used during construction, including tracked cranes, cherry pickers, bulldozers, forklifts, etc.
  • Familiarity with OSHA hand signals.
  • Knowledgeable about equipment-rated capacities, load ranges, and safety factors.
  • Certified in the safe and proper operation of cranes.
  • Familiarity with rigging techniques.
  • Must be able to complete the required crane operator pre-employment and annual physical requirements.
