Job description

About Maddox + You:

As a Winding Technician, you're the first and last hands on every core & coil we rewind. The transformers you rebuild have powered American factories and communities for decades. Your job is to fit them with new coils and put them back in service for decades more.

This is not an assembly-line factory job. The work runs from heavy and mechanical to fine and technical. You cut the lid off each transformer, remove and disassemble the transformer's core & coil (the heart of the machine), and take the measurements our winders need to wind new coils just across the shop. When the coils come back, you stack in thousands of pounds of core steel, insulate and set the head frame, weld on aluminum/copper bus, and wire up the complete unit, ready for the next stage of production.

This is a career, not a gig. You'll learn a skilled trade, working on a team that takes pride in doing the job right, for an employer who values your work ethic, character, and stable lifestyle. You'll also work with our production team on electrical testing, component function and installation, and the full reconditioning process, learning the transformer inside and out.

More about You:

  • You love working with your hands to fix things and solve problems.
  • You're comfortable with online documentation and web-based software systems (computer & smartphone).
  • You're a good communicator; in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • You enjoy working with others.
  • You're a good learner; not a know-it-all.
  • Experience in welding, fabrication, or general shop/mechanical work is a plus - but not required. We're willing to train candidates with the right attitude and ambition.

Basics:

  • This position currently works 45 hours on a 5-day a week schedule. All day-time schedule (not night shift). The schedule changes slightly during Summer/Winter, but is generally 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
  • Employees are required to meet the basic physical requirements of a heavy-equipment environment, including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must know how to use basic hand tools, follow written instructions, etc.

Experience & Education:

We value skills and experience (welding, fabrication, general shop/mechanical skills), but we're also willing to invest in training early-career candidates with the right attitude and ambition.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Comprehensive full-time benefits package averaging $20,000+ per year (amount varies based on age, family size, and eligibility), including:
  • Health & wellness benefits (insurance or cash-in-lieu options)
  • Paid maternity and paternity leave
  • 401(k) with 100% match up to 8% of wages
  • Paid holidays, PTO, and family-life gifts
  • Vision, dental, disability, life insurance, and other voluntary benefits

Hourly range: $26.57 - $34.65 USD

Pro Tip: We got a LOT of applicants, so please write a few sentences telling us what stood out to you, and why you think you'd thrive in this particular opportunity.
