POSITION SUMMARY

The role of Grid Integration & Studies Engineer directly supports the company's mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. You will join Nordex USA as part of the Global Nordex Engineering Grid Integration group to support business in North America. The role will support the Project's interconnection process from application to commissioning, including the dynamic model analysis and model tune ups for the interconnection's studies and compliance of the reliability standards.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Track and keep up to date the respective ISOs codes and requirements as they relate to the reliability standards, project interconnection and dynamic models.
  • Assess the respective ISOs grid code compliance based on the existing product portfolio. Provide guidance regarding the interface to meet the respective code and interconnection process.
  • Own and lead conversations with project stakeholders concerning project application data (tech specs, forms, dynamic models), interconnection process (planning, studies), and commissioning (plant test, commissioning reports).
  • Support project owner during the interconnection process, coordinating the internal support from Global Engineering, and tracking all the data (tech specs, forms, dynamic models, test reports) required for project interconnection.
  • Conduct simulations with the dynamic models (PSS/e, TSAT, PSCAD) representing the wind turbine generators and plant controller, including the elements comprising the Balance of Plant to meet the reliability standards, ISO's code, or to demonstrate the dynamic model's quality.
    Be the liaison with Global Engineering Grid Integration group, developing strategies to support business in North America.


WHAT YOU HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical power engineering from a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • PHD in Power Electronics is desirable.
  • 5 plus years of working experience in renewable or traditional energy development, or transmission planning.
  • Experience with HV and transmission system planning, especially project interconnection processes.
  • Experience with dynamic model analysis software (PSCAD, PSS/e, TSAT, DIgSILENT).
  • Knowledge and experience with power systems integration (onshore wind farms), project application, reliability standards and ISOs interconnection requirements.
  • Broad knowledge and familiarity with the NERC reliability standards, and most representative ISOs codes in North America (ERCOT, NSPI, CAISO, AESO, SaskPower, Hydro Quebec).
  • Above-average expertise using different software languages for dynamic model analysis (PSCAD, PSS/e, TSAT, DigSILENT-Power Factory) for studying power systems integration.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex issues in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical thinking.
  • Clear and concise technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to obtain a passport to travel internationally.
  • Good command of English as primary language. Other languages are a plus (German, Spanish, French).
  • Ability and willingness to travel (20% typical).
  • Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver's license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver's abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.

The pay for this role is exempt at $130k - $140k USD salary with up to a 10% bonus.  Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
