JOB SUMMARY & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
What You'll Do
As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, you'll serve as a clinical nutrition expert for the WIC program by providing individualized nutrition assessments, counseling, education, and breastfeeding support for participants with both routine and high-risk nutritional needs.
Responsibilities include:
  • Provide individualized nutrition and breastfeeding counseling for pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding women, infants, and children.
  • Assess and counsel high-risk participants with complex nutrition concerns including anemia, obesity, underweight, gastrointestinal disorders, prematurity, low birth weight, and maternal nutrition.
  • Complete comprehensive nutrition assessments, anthropometric measurements, hemoglobin testing, and infant formula calculations.
  • Review and approve specialty infant formula requests in accordance with provider orders and WIC guidelines.
  • Develop and facilitate nutrition, prenatal, and breastfeeding education classes for individuals and groups.
  • Educate families on healthy eating, infant feeding, and breastfeeding best practices.
  • Provide referrals to community resources that support participants' health and well-being.
  • Support community outreach efforts by promoting Valle del Sol's WIC services and participating in educational events.
  • Assist with training and mentoring Nutrition Education Specialists.
  • Maintain accurate documentation while ensuring patient confidentiality and compliance with WIC regulations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, community partners, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Human Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Education, Nutrition Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN/RD) credential, or eligibility to obtain registration within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Reliable transportation with the ability to travel between Valle del Sol locations throughout Maricopa County.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.

Preferred
  • Previous WIC experience.
  • One or more years of experience in nutrition, healthcare, public health, or social services.
  • Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment
This position may operate in clinical, office, or community settings including clinics, administrative offices, outreach locations, client homes, partner agencies, and community sites. Employees may interact with individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges, emotional distress, or complex social needs. Standard safety precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required as applicable.

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Employees must maintain compliance with all Valle del Sol policies and applicable regulatory requirements, which may include:
  • Licensure, certification, credentialing, and/or privileging requirements applicable to the position.
  • Required immunizations and occupational health clearances.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing and Hepatitis B screening or declination, when applicable.
  • Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card when required by law or program.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record when operating a vehicle for company business.
  • Completion and maintenance of required training, certifications, and continuing education.
