The New Mexico WIC Program, Department of Health, and Food and Nutrition Bureau safeguards the health of nutritionally at-risk low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infant, and children by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, nutrition information for healthy eating, health counseling, breastfeeding support, nutrition classes, cooking classes, and referrals to health care providers and social services.

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Nutritionist Supervisor for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program at the Midtown Public Health Office. This position is to oversee daily activities a local WIC office to ensure efficient operations, by assigning and directly supervising the work of subordinate nutritionists and other support staff to screen applicants to determine eligibility by assessing income, residency and nutritional risk. Duties may include, but not limited to, developing objectives and organizational plans for the effective delivery of services. Supervisor will oversee the interview and hire process, assist in employee training, conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions, and oversee daily WIC clinic operations, provide nutritional education, conduct group facilitated nutrition education and information on healthy eating and breastfeeding support.

This position is responsible for:

• Management and workforce development by encouraging and fostering an environment of trust, respect and professionalism and manage perception of fairness.
• Manage and foster development of staff to assure accountability of quality clinical services in local health offices.
• Mentor staff to become motivated and productive personnel who embrace NMDOH/PHD/Regional values as they carry out job expectations.
• Conduct annual performance evaluations and conduct training and on-going coaching of WIC staff to provide excellent client service delivery.

Qualified Pregnant, Breastfeeding and Post-partum women, infants and children - up to the age of five (5) years.

Fluent in both English and Spanish; experience in entering and retrieving data from multiple information systems including the New Mexico Women, Infants & Children Program Automated Data System; recruiting, hiring and coaching staff, providing and/or coordinating direct nutrition services to clients including nutritional screening, assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation based on program guidelines, client education and management of records; ensuring adherence to WIC policies, protocols and procedures; collaborating and coordinating with other organizations within the community; assisting in food and nutrition programs in the department of dietetics to meet nutritional requirements; counseling individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life.

Bachelor's degree in a social, community, health, education, or nutritional field. Three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Services are provided in a clinic with a diverse racial and ethnic population, many of whom do not speak English, at auxiliary and community sites. Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases. Travel to provide outreach and coverage to attend meetings and training with the occasional overnight stay is required. Standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending and stooping for extended periods of time may be required throughout the day. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
