What does a whole food manager do?

A Whole Food Manager oversees the operations of a store or department specializing in natural, organic, and health-focused foods. Their responsibilities include managing staff, ensuring high-quality customer service, managing inventory, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations. They also work on merchandising, sales strategies, and building relationships with vendors to offer fresh, high-quality products. The role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a passion for healthy living. Whole Food Managers play a key role in promoting the store’s values and ensuring a high standard of food quality and customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a whole food manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Whole Food Manager, you need strong retail management experience, knowledge of natural and organic products, and typically a background in business or related fields. Familiarity with inventory management systems, point-of-sale (POS) technology, and food safety certifications is essential. Exceptional leadership, customer service, and problem-solving skills help you motivate teams and ensure customer satisfaction. These skills are crucial for maintaining high store standards, meeting sales goals, and fostering a positive shopping environment.

What are some common challenges whole food managers face in balancing inventory quality with minimizing waste?

Whole Food Managers often face the challenge of ensuring that fresh produce and perishable goods remain at peak quality while also minimizing spoilage and waste. This requires diligent inventory management, close monitoring of product shelf life, and effective forecasting based on sales trends. Managers must collaborate closely with suppliers, staff, and sometimes customers to adjust orders, rotate stock, and implement waste reduction strategies. Regular team training and adopting data-driven ordering systems can help address these challenges and maintain profitability.

Working Chef / Kitchen Lead (Whole Food Plant-Based — Vinings)

— Manage daily kitchen systems: Own the ordering, inventory counts, and PAR levels to ensure seamless daily operation.
— Own the brand standard: Ensure 100% compliance with our no soy, no seed oils whole-food requirements on every single plate.
— Manage specialty vendor relationships: Coordinate and execute pickup runs for specialty ingredients — valid GA driver's license required.
— Execute catering orders for corporate wellness events and partner organizations.
What We're Looking For:
— Minimum 3 years active line cooking experience — required.
— Kitchen leadership or lead experience preferred.
— ServSafe Certification — required.
— Valid Georgia driver's license — required.
— Strong openness to and passion for whole-food plant-based cooking.
Requirements:
— Valid Georgia Food Handler Certificate.

— Signed Confidentiality & Non-Replication Agreement.

To Apply:

Compensation:

Hours:
30 to 40 hours per week
