What is a wheelman?

A wheelman is someone who is responsible for driving a vehicle, often in high-pressure or specialized situations. In maritime industries, a wheelman operates the steering wheel or helm of a ship, ensuring it stays on course. In law enforcement or criminal slang, 'wheelman' can refer to the designated driver in a getaway scenario. The specific duties can vary depending on the context, but the core responsibility is skilled, reliable vehicle operation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Wheelman, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wheelman, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a strong driving record, and in-depth knowledge of transportation regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and vehicle maintenance tools is typically required. Reliability, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills to ensure timely deliveries and safe operations. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance in transportation and logistics roles.
