Job description

Based in South Louisiana, D&S Marine Service is a family owned and operated inland marine transportation company. We specialize in the movement of barges along the Lower Mississippi River and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. With our growing fleet of tow boats, we have set the bar with our unwavering commitment to quality, performance and exceptional customer service since 2005.
Wheelman job duties include but not limited to:
  • Navigates inrivers or canals. Uses steering controllers, throttles, radar compass, short-wave radio, depth finder, loud hailer, and other equipment to transporttow to a destination.
  • Uses radio communication and vision to navigate waterways, docks, locks, and other vessel traffic.
  • Trainsand supervises the crew in a safe and efficient performance of duties.
  • Evaluates performance ofall crew members.
  • Acts as companyrepresentative in the day to day dealings with customers at their facilitiesand with representatives of governmental agencies.
  • Adheres tocompany policies, United States Coast Guard, and environmental regulations.
  • Ensures safe working conditions and orderliness of the vessel.
  • Acts as the on-sitecoordinator in emergency situations.
  • Maintains routine maintenance of the vessel.

*Wheelman work schedules consists of 28/14 or 20/10.
