A-Level Automotive Technician / Diagnostic Technician

Position Summary
Midas Auto Service Experts in Fremont is seeking an experienced A-Level Automotive Technician with strong diagnostic and major mechanical repair skills.
The qualified candidate must be capable of diagnosing complex electrical, drivability, engine-performance, and mechanical problems. Proven experience performing engine and transmission removal and replacement (R&R) is required.
Applicants must own a complete professional set of automotive tools appropriate for advanced diagnostics, general repairs, and major engine and transmission work.
Compensation and Schedule
  • Pay range: $30-$45 per flat-rate hour
  • Expected hours: 40 hours per week
  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Performance bonuses available
  • Steady workload throughout the year

Final compensation will be based on experience, diagnostic ability, certifications, productivity, and overall skill level.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Accurately diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and drivability problems
  • Perform advanced engine diagnostics and check-engine-light repairs
  • Diagnose electrical, fuel, ignition, emissions, and engine-performance problems
  • Perform engine removal and replacement
  • Perform transmission removal and replacement
  • Complete timing-belt, timing-chain, and head-gasket repairs
  • Diagnose and repair domestic and import vehicles
  • Repair brake, suspension, steering, and exhaust systems
  • Diagnose and service A/C, heating, and cooling systems
  • Diagnose battery, starting, and charging-system problems
  • Perform oil changes and factory-scheduled maintenance
  • Mount, balance, rotate, and repair tires
  • Complete thorough digital vehicle inspections
  • Clearly document diagnostic results, repair findings, and recommendations
  • Verify completed repairs and perform quality-control inspections
  • Perform vehicle road tests when necessary to diagnose or confirm repairs
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Complete repairs efficiently while minimizing comebacks

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional automotive repair experience
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Proven engine and transmission R&R experience
  • Ability to diagnose complex electrical and drivability problems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience servicing both domestic and import vehicles
  • Proficiency with scan tools and modern diagnostic equipment
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, engine-performance, suspension, steering, brake, and cooling systems
  • Ability to properly document diagnostic findings and completed repairs
  • Must own a complete professional set of automotive tools
  • Must have the specialty tools necessary to perform advanced repairs and major mechanical work
  • Dependable, organized, productive, and committed to quality workmanship
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required because road testing customer vehicles is an essential function of this position

Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE certifications
  • Advanced electrical-diagnostic experience
  • Experience with engine mechanical and internal repairs
  • Experience diagnosing CAN-bus and module-communication problems
  • Experience with A/C diagnostic and service equipment
  • Experience using digital vehicle-inspection software

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, and work around vehicles for extended periods
  • Ability to safely operate lifts, tire equipment, diagnostic equipment, and other automotive shop machinery
  • Ability to work in an active automotive-repair environment
