How much do wet lab jobs pay per hour?
What is a wet lab?
A Wet Lab job involves conducting experiments that require handling liquids, chemicals, biological samples, or other wet materials in a controlled lab environment. Wet lab scientists and technicians perform tasks such as sample preparation, chemical mixing, and data analysis to support research in fields like biology, chemistry, and medicine. These roles typically require knowledge of lab safety protocols, proper equipment usage, and scientific techniques.
What are the typical daily responsibilities in a wet lab position?
In a Wet Lab position, your daily tasks may include preparing and running experiments, analyzing samples using specialized equipment, maintaining and calibrating instruments, and accurately recording data in lab notebooks or digital systems. You will also be responsible for keeping the lab clean and organized, adhering to safety protocols, and properly storing chemicals and biological materials. Collaboration is common, as you may work with other lab technicians, scientists, or research teams to support ongoing projects. This hands-on role is ideal for those who enjoy problem-solving and actively contributing to exciting scientific advancements.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a wet lab position?
To thrive in a Wet Lab role, you need a solid understanding of laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and scientific methodology, often supported by a degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field. Familiarity with instruments like pipettes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, and lab management software is typically required, along with knowledge of compliance standards such as GLP or OSHA. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for managing experiments and collaborating with teammates. These qualities are essential to ensure accurate results, maintain a safe and organized lab environment, and contribute effectively to research objectives.

THE POSITION
As a GENOMICS LAB TECHNICIAN you will work as part of the Genomic Lab team to fix, barcode, and/or sequence biological samples. In this role, you will use a wide range of laboratory techniques to perform our proprietary split-pool combinatorial barcoding protocol, ultimately helping advance our customers' research. You will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, Automation, Manufacturing, and other internal partners to ensure seamless process execution and continuous improvement.Â
IN THIS POSITION, YOU WILL
- Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment
- Receive, inspect, and log lab specimens, handling all personally identifiable information with extreme care
- Perform cell and/or nuclei fixation following standard operating procedures
- Use techniques such as cell counting and electrophoresis to analyze in-process samples
- Prepare libraries using Parse's split-pool combinatorial barcoding process
- Operate and support automated laboratory systems used for Next Generation Sequencing
- Maintain accurate batch records and perform required administrative tasks following Good Documentation Practices (GDP), including routine use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for sample tracking and documentation
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) as well as any other applicable standards that may apply to the role
FOR THIS POSITION, WE LOOK FOR
- B.S./B.A. in a relevant field with 3+ years of hands-on wet lab experience in industry or a technician role, or Associate's degree with 5+ years of relevant hands-on wet lab experience in a professional settingÂ
- Demonstrated ability to perform common molecular biology or chemistry lab techniques
- Experience using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) such as Illumina or Ultima platforms required. Experience using Lab Automation such as Hamilton platforms preferredÂ
- Meticulous adherence to policies, procedures, and established protocols
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to stay organized and effectively prioritize work
- Sound judgment and critical thinking skills, including the ability to make in-scope decisions and escalate appropriately during time-sensitive tasks
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, dynamic lab environment where priorities shift and focus can change quicklyÂ
- Adaptability and resilience when plans evolve or new direction is introduced
JOB CONDITIONS
