Introduction

With more than 50 years of lumber manufacturing experience, Westervelt Lumber produces a wide variety of high-performance products for customers in both domestic and international markets. Providing high quality Southern yellow pine lumber is what we do best.

Day in the Life

As a Millwright at Westervelt Lumber, you’ll spend your day ensuring our production equipment runs smoothly and safely. You’ll:

  • Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical systems to identify issues.
  • Perform repairs, adjustments, and alignments using precision tools.
  • Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance on mill equipment.
  • Fabricate parts and perform welding as needed.
  • Communicate with operators and planning teams to coordinate repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, parts used, and time spent.
  • Uphold strict safety standards and participate in company-wide safety programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair mechanical systems and components on plant machinery.
  • Observe equipment in operation to locate causes of trouble and develop repair plans.
  • Adjust and align machinery using hand tools and measuring devices.
  • Start and operate equipment to test performance after repairs.
  • Perform mechanical preventative and predictive maintenance duties.
  • Cut, weld, and fabricate metal parts using various processes.
  • Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic problems and assist with repairs.
  • Replace shafts, sprockets, bearings, chains, and belts as needed.
  • Submit work requests, order parts, and close work orders with detailed documentation.
  • Comply with PPE and lock-out safety requirements.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years of Millwright experience or a two-year Technical Degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field.
  • Ability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
  • Strong commitment to safety and excellent attendance record.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and work in noisy environments.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders and work from elevated positions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
