WNSWLHD Radiation Oncology is a highly advanced and leading service that uses advanced techniques and technologies combined with a sub-specialisation model of care.  Radiation Oncology is part of the district-wide Cancer Services directorate operating networked departments in Dubbo and Orange.

WNSWLHD has a highly skilled, experienced and supportive group of Radiation Oncologists leading the way in cancer care and innovation through Ultra-hypofractionation, SRS and SBRT techniques.  WNSWLHD has networked departments that are full Varian sites with advanced technologies including True-beam Linacs with Hyper-Arc, Halcyon Linac with HyperSight as well as RapidPlan and RAD planning capabilities.  WNSWLHD Radiation Oncology prioritises staff development, work flexibility and is invested in the performance of  research and participation in clinical trials.

You will be based at Orange or Dubbo Health Service, a part of the Western NSW Local Health District. For more information on living and working in our beautiful region, visit our website Western NSW Health Careers.

With a focus on innovative models of care, Orange Health Service is the largest rural hospital in New South Wales and the regional teaching, referral and trauma centre for the Central West. Newly developed in 2011 on the grounds of Bloomfield Campus, the 520 bed state of the art facility has a 200 bed general hospital, with five operating suites and 60 specialised treatment areas.

Dubbo Health Service has been under redevelopment at the existing site since 2013. With 189 beds the current services include: Emergency Department, General and Specialised Medical/Surgical, Maternity, Paediatrics, Intensive/Coronary Care, Palliative and Oncology Care, Renal, Orthopaedics, Medical Imaging, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Mental health, Allied Health, Ambulatory Care/Outpatient Clinics, Stroke Services and Cardio-pulmonary Rehabilitation.

1.     Registered or eligible for full registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Radiation Oncologist with Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologist (FRANZCR) or other relevant college, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.

2.     Demonstrated technical and professional competence in Radiation Oncology, including and possession of (or eligibility for) full Medical Indemnity insurance and EPA licence for Radiation Oncology and familiarity with CT planning for all common types of tumors, for both radical and palliative radiation therapy.

3.     Commitment to the development of the Cancer and Palliative Care Clinical Stream including participation in relevant Area, State, and National committees, as required to develop evidence-based, multidisciplinary models of cancer care within existing Australian and NSW-wide radiation oncology protocols.

4.     A commitment to continued equitable participation in a hospital on-call roster with other specialist staff including provision of outreach services to rural communities.

5.     Demonstrate skills & attributes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

       High level interpersonal & communication skills;

       Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team;

       Experience & involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice;

       Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision;

       Familiarity with software applications to facilitate communication and planning in the public health environment.

6.     Demonstrated commitment to quality assurance activities and to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including the ability to lead and participate in collaborative research.

7.     Relevant clinical experience including clinical work with modern radiotherapy technology at a post fellowship level is essential. Demonstrated expertise and experience in the management and radiation treatment of a variety of tumor types.

8.     Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
