Job Title: Cashier

Department: Front End

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location: West Portal - San Francisco, CA 94127

Hourly Range: $20.25 - $22.25


  • PT Shift: 10 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. at least 3 days/week. Tuesdays and Wednesdays required
  • FT Shift: Flexible preferred


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answers customer questions, directs customers to the items they are looking for, documents customer requests, and listens to customer complaints if management is unavailable
  • Accurately processes customer transactions via the ECRS platform, processing cash, credit cards, and gift cards
  • Turns in the cash drawer as determined by the store management
  • Ensures products are rotated, within date, and properly displayed on shelves
  • Organizes the stockroom and fills assigned sections as needed
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds

Cleanliness & Safety

  • Keeps the store in a clean, orderly condition during shift and ensures that spills, debris, and hazardous conditions are cleaned and picked up
  • Cleans cases and shelves, mops and sweeps the sales floor, stockroom, and dairy coolers
  • Operates equipment such as a pallet jack and other backroom equipment safely, without leading to injury to oneself or others
  • Protects the safety of oneself, co-workers, and Spanglerโ€™s Market patrons at all times, and reports safety-related accidents and incidents to management at once
  • Follows safe lifting procedures

Additional Expectations:

  • Troubleshoots equipment breakdowns during shift and reports these incidents to management promptly
  • If a potential shoplifter is identified, uses CB to advise a management team member
  • Follows all company policies and procedures and maintains open communication with management and the ownership team
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled
  • Assists in other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Strong communication skills and enjoy engaging with customers
  • Consistently reliable with strong attendance and punctuality
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Previous grocery or retail experience preferred but not required
  • Experience in cashiering a plus, but willing to train
