Position Description:
The Department Coordinator supports and assists Campus Recreation & Wellness full-time staff to facilitate its various functions including fitness programming, wellness initiatives, competitive sports, outdoor recreation programming, membership and marketing efforts, and facility maintenance.
An incumbent filling a Department Coordinator position may be assigned a primary area of specialization based on departmental needs and individual skill and knowledge. The areas of specialization include fitness and wellness, facilities, competitive sports, and membership and marketing. While serving as an area support lead, the Department Coordinator is responsible to collaborate and provide support across functional areas to help ensure a high standard of service delivery and operational effectiveness.
There are two positions available to fill. Appointment of these positions is a fixed one-year term, eligible for annual renewal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitors and supervises facilities and programming as assigned
  • Assists with regular maintenance and cleaning of fitness equipment
  • Assists with hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of student staff
  • Communicates safety/security protocols, facility policies and procedures, and departmental updates to student staff, members, and guests
  • Assists to coordinate departmental special events
  • Responds to emergency situations urgently and professionally (i.e., injuries, inclement weather, etc.)
  • Consistently provides excellent customer service to members, guests, and fellow staff
  • Facilitates sales transactions and utilizes departmental software systems as directed
  • Conducts inventory and maintains accurate record-keeping
  • Performs other duties and completes special projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in sports administration, exercise science, or related field
  • First aid/BLS and CPR/AED certification
  • Experience with facility management
  • Experience as a supervisor
  • Experience in group fitness programming or personal training
  • Experience officiating basketball, volleyball, soccer, football, or other competitive sports

Work Hours and Location
This is a part-time, non-exempt job with a 30-hour regular workweek including evening and weekend hours as required. Additional work hours may be required based on programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. The primary work locations for this job are at the Belknap Campus and the Health Sciences Campus, dependent on the area of specialization. Occasional overnight travel (for student trips) may be required.
