Primary Purpose
Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program at the assigned campus. Support students in developing academic, career, personal, and social skills while providing responsive services, individual planning, and system support that promote student success and well-being.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Master's degree in counseling from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas school counselor certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning and student support systems
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior effectively
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings
  • Ability to support students during crisis situations and emotional challenges
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community agencies

Experience
  • Experience working with students in educational or counseling settings preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Guidance Curriculum
  • Plan, organize, implement, and deliver structured guidance lessons aligned to district counseling curriculum
  • Provide instruction related to interpersonal skills, safety, post-secondary planning, and personal development
  • Collaborate with staff and community members to identify student needs and priorities
  • Integrate guidance lessons and activities into campus instructional programs
  • Use engaging instructional strategies and technology tools to support student learning

Section 504 Compliance and Services
  • Coordinate/facilitate 504 meetings
  • Review referrals and gather information
  • Develop, update, maintain student accomidations

Responsive Services
  • Provide counseling services to support students experiencing academic, social, emotional, or behavioral challenges
  • Respond appropriately to crisis situations and provide immediate student support
  • Use preventive and intervention strategies to remove barriers to student success
  • Provide referrals to community agencies and outside support services as needed
  • Serve as a student advocate and support conflict resolution processes

Individual Planning
  • Assist students and families with academic, career, and personal planning
  • Support students with goal setting, graduation planning, and post-secondary readiness
  • Interpret assessment and testing data to support student growth and decision making
  • Promote equitable access to programs and opportunities for all students

System Support
  • Participate in campus improvement planning and student support initiatives
  • Provide parent and staff training related to student development and wellness
  • Maintain counseling program documentation, audits, and accountability systems
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities
  • Communicate counseling program goals and services to stakeholders

Compliance and Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate reports, records, and student documentation
  • Comply with federal, state, and district policies and procedures
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards for school counselors
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise assigned counseling aides and administrative support staff as assigned.
